Round 1 choice filling ran July 20–22, 2026 (locking by 5 PM on July 22), covering candidates ranked 1 to 37,976. The Round 1 tentative seat allotment was released July 24, 2026, with seat confirmation due by July 25, 2026 and reporting at colleges from July 26–30, 2026. Round 2 choice filling ran August 3–5, 2026, with tentative allotment on August 8 and provisional allotment on August 9, 2026. Round 3 (ranks 131,094–233,812) ran choice filling from August 17, with allotment released August 21, 2026. With 53,699 seats still vacant, Supplementary Counselling followed, with provisional allotment released September 9, 2026.
What is TNEA?
TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is the centralised counselling process conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu, for admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes at government, government-aided, university department, and self-financing engineering colleges across the state.
Unlike states that use JEE Main for engineering admissions, TNEA ranks candidates purely on Class 12 (HSC) marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics — normalised into a merit rank. There is no separate TNEA entrance exam.

TNEA 2026 Counselling – Step-by-Step Process
Online Registration & Fee Payment
Register at tneaonline.org with your Class 12 exam details. Pay the counselling registration fee — ₹500 (General/OC/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC) or ₹250 (SC/SCA/ST), plus ₹100 per special reservation category claimed.
Document Upload
Upload scanned copies of Class 10/12 marksheets, community/nativity certificate, transfer certificate, and other supporting documents as applicable.
Choice Filling & Locking
Fill college-branch preferences in order of priority. Round 1 choice filling for 2026 ran July 20–22 (locking by 5 PM on July 22) — lock choices before the deadline; locked choices cannot be changed.
Tentative & Final Seat Allotment
Tentative allotment is published on the portal (Round 1: July 24, 2026). Login with your registration credentials to check your allotted college and branch.
Seat Confirmation
Confirm or reject your allotted seat by the given deadline (Round 1: by July 25, 2026). Rejecting keeps you eligible for later rounds; not responding may forfeit the seat.
Reporting at TNEA Facilitation Centre / College
Report to your allotted college with original documents during the reporting window (Round 1: July 26–30, 2026) to complete admission formalities.
Later Rounds & Supplementary Counselling
Candidates not allotted a seat, or dissatisfied with Round 1, could participate in Round 2 (choice filling August 3–5, provisional allotment August 9, 2026) and Round 3 (choice filling from August 17, allotment August 21, 2026). A Supplementary Counselling round followed for the 53,699 seats still vacant, with provisional allotment released September 9, 2026.
