Understanding TNEA's College Network
TNEA covers 420+ engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu, spanning four broad institute types: University Departments of Anna University (CEG, ACT, and MIT campuses in Chennai, plus regional campuses), Government colleges (fully state-funded, like Government College of Technology, Coimbatore), Government-aided colleges (partial state funding), and Self-financing colleges (privately run, including well-regarded autonomous institutions).
Unlike seat-matrix pages for exams with a fixed national seat count, TNEA's effective "seat matrix" for a given candidate is really the intersection of college, branch, and community category — since closing ranks (not raw seat counts) are what TNEA actually publishes and what determines realistic options. This is why our TNEA College Predictor, which works directly off closing-rank data, is generally more useful for planning than an approximate seat-count table.

CEG, ACT, and MIT campuses in Chennai, plus Anna University's regional campuses (Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Tiruchirappalli). Lowest fees, strong legacy reputation.
Government Colleges
Fully state-funded colleges like Government College of Technology (Coimbatore) and Government College of Engineering campuses across districts. Low fees, government-run.
Government-Aided Colleges
Colleges receiving partial state funding, with subsidised fees compared to fully self-financing institutions.
Self-Financing Colleges
Privately run colleges — including autonomous institutions like PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, and Thiagarajar College of Engineering, which are among TNEA's most competitive colleges by closing rank despite being self-financing.
