Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about MHT-CET rank and Maharashtra engineering admissions.
1How is MHT-CET rank (State Merit Number) calculated?
MHT-CET rank (called State Merit Number or SMN) is based on the percentile score. The percentile is calculated separately for PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) groups. For engineering (PCM group), your percentile is converted to a state merit rank used for CAP (Centralized Admission Process) rounds.
2What percentile is needed for VJTI Mumbai?
VJTI (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute) CSE requires 99.98+ percentile for Open category. ECE needs 99.95+, Mechanical 99.9+. COEP (College of Engineering Pune) CSE requires 99.9+ percentile. These are among the highest cutoffs in Maharashtra.
3Can I use JEE Main score instead of MHT-CET for Maharashtra colleges?
Yes — Maharashtra engineering colleges accept both MHT-CET and JEE Main scores. Roughly 80% seats are filled via MHT-CET and 20% via JEE Main score. For JEE Main candidates, a separate merit list is prepared. VJTI, COEP, ICT Mumbai all accept JEE Main scores.
4How accurate is MHT-CET rank predictor from percentile?
Converting percentile to rank is straightforward using total candidates: Rank ≈ (1 - Percentile/100) × Total Candidates. With approximately 4 lakh PCM candidates, a 99 percentile gives rank ~4,000. The predictor is accurate to within ±10% of actual rank.
5When are MHT-CET 2026 CAP rounds?
MHT-CET 2026 CAP (Centralized Admission Process) rounds are typically held in August–September 2026 after results. CAP Round 1 results are declared in August, Round 2 in September, and Spot Round in October. Total of 3–4 CAP rounds are conducted by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra.
