How KEAM Round 2 (Phase 2) Differs From Phase 1

Where Phase 1 is a fresh allotment run against the complete rank list and each candidate's full option list, Phase 2 is fundamentally a vacancy-driven reallotment round. Seats that were allotted in Phase 1 but never confirmed — because the candidate did not pay the acceptance fee by July 12, 2026, was allotted a better seat through some other route, or withdrew — flowed back into the pool. CEE Kerala then re-ran allotment for candidates still in contention against this refreshed seat matrix, publishing the provisional result on July 17, 2026 and the final result on July 20, 2026. This is why Phase 2 movement tends to concentrate in government-aided and self-financing colleges: government colleges like CET Trivandrum, TKM College of Engineering Kollam, and Government Engineering College Thrissur are usually close to fully subscribed after Phase 1, so the incremental vacancies that appear are more often in the aided and private tiers.

A frequent misunderstanding among KEAM candidates is assuming Phase 2 works like an automatic upgrade, similar to how "Float" works in JoSAA. It does not happen passively. To be considered for a Phase 2 upgrade after already accepting a Phase 1 seat, a candidate needed to actively log in to the CEE Kerala portal and click "Confirm" on the Option Registration page during the Phase 2 window — skipping this step, even by accident, generally meant CEE Kerala would not re-evaluate that candidate for a better allotment in Phase 2, and they simply retained their Phase 1 seat. Candidates who forgot this step because they assumed "just holding the seat" is enough were the single most common source of missed upgrades in Kerala's counselling cycle.

Kerala's community and category reservation matrix — covering SC/ST, SEBC groups such as Ezhava and Muslim, and LC/OEC — remained fully in force during Phase 2, and it interacts with vacancy patterns in a specific way: if too few eligible candidates from a particular reserved category listed a given college in Phase 1, that category's seat at that college could surface as a fresh vacancy in Phase 2, effectively giving eligible candidates a second look at a seat that appeared unavailable during Phase 1.

It is also worth noting that Phase 2 was not the final opportunity. KEAM's full counselling cycle (CAP) ran to three main phases — Phase 3, the final round, followed with its allotment result declared August 5, 2026, and the last date to join the allotted college was August 10, 2026. So a candidate who did not see the upgrade they wanted in Phase 2 was not out of options at that stage — Phase 3 followed, and self-financing college seats in particular remained available well into that final stage.

With KEAM 2026 engineering counselling now concluded, candidates should have completed fee payment and reporting steps by the relevant deadlines. Anyone still without a seat should check with individual self-financing colleges directly for any remaining vacancy-based admission, and monitor cee.kerala.gov.in for official updates rather than third-party forwards or social media posts.

Checking Your Round 2 Outcome

You accepted a Phase 1 seat and confirmed for an upgrade

Check the Phase 2 result on cee.kerala.gov.in. If allotted something better, it automatically replaces your Phase 1 seat — complete any additional fee payment or reporting steps by the deadline.

You accepted a Phase 1 seat and were satisfied

If you did not confirm continuation, your Phase 1 seat remains valid subject to CEE Kerala's reporting deadlines, and you were not affected by Phase 2 allotment.

You got no seat in Phase 1

You were automatically evaluated in Phase 2. If still unallotted, you would have remained in contention for Phase 3 (final round), whose allotment result was declared August 5, 2026.

Still unallotted after all phases

Use a KEAM college predictor to check realistic options at your rank and category, and reach out to self-financing colleges directly for any remaining vacancy-based admission.

Community Reservation Categories Applied in Round 2

KEAM 2026 Round 2 Allotment – FAQs

Common questions about KEAM 2026 Round 2 (Phase 2) allotment dates, upgrades, and process

1
When was KEAM 2026 Round 2 (Phase 2) allotment released?
CEE Kerala (Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala) published the provisional KEAM 2026 Phase 2 allotment on July 17, 2026, with the final Phase 2 allotment result declared on July 20, 2026, following Phase 1 fee payment closing on July 12, 2026. Candidates allotted a seat in Phase 2 should check their result and complete fee payment/reporting steps by the deadline specified on the allotment memo. Always verify the exact deadlines on cee.kerala.gov.in.
2
Did I need to re-register for KEAM Round 2?
No fresh registration was required. Candidates who participated in Phase 1 — whether allotted a seat or not — remained automatically in contention for Phase 2. However, candidates who accepted and paid for a Phase 1 seat and wanted to be considered for an upgrade in Phase 2 needed to log in to the CEE Kerala candidate portal and click 'Confirm' on the Option Registration page before the Phase 2 window closed; skipping this step meant they were not evaluated for a better allotment.
3
How is KEAM Round 2 different from Round 1?
Round 1 (Phase 1) is the first full allotment against the original rank list and option list, and it draws the highest volume of applicants competing for every seat, especially in government engineering colleges. Round 2 (Phase 2) is primarily a vacancy-based reallotment round: seats vacated by candidates who did not pay the Phase 1 fee, exited, or were allotted elsewhere reopen, and remaining and continuing candidates are re-evaluated against those newly available seats. Movement in Phase 2 tends to benefit candidates targeting government-aided and self-financing colleges the most, since government college seats are usually near saturation after Phase 1.
4
If I got upgraded in Round 2, was my Round 1 seat cancelled automatically?
Yes. If you were allotted a better option in Phase 2, your previous Phase 1 seat was automatically released and updated to the new allotment — you did not need to manually withdraw from your earlier college. You should still verify the allotment memo carefully on cee.kerala.gov.in and complete any additional fee payment or document steps CEE Kerala specifies for the upgraded seat before the deadline.
5
What if I didn't get an upgrade in Round 2?
If no better option became available for your rank and category in Phase 2, you simply continued holding your Phase 1 seat, provided you paid the acceptance fee on time. There is no penalty for not receiving an upgrade — candidates in this situation remained eligible to try again in Phase 3, the final round, whose allotment result was declared August 5, 2026.
6
How did community reservation affect Round 2 upgrade chances?
Kerala's community reservation matrix — covering SC/ST, SEBC categories such as Ezhava and Muslim, and LC/OEC — continued to apply in Phase 2 exactly as it did in Phase 1. Vacancy-based movement in Round 2 could specifically open reserved-category seats that were not filled in Phase 1 if too few eligible candidates from that community listed a particular college, so candidates should keep their community certificate details accurate and recheck their eligibility for reserved seats they may have missed in Round 1.
7
Was it worth adding more options before KEAM Round 2?
Where CEE Kerala permitted option list editing during the Phase 2 window (as is typical), it was worth widening the list to include more self-financing and government-aided colleges, particularly branches a candidate would genuinely accept, since Phase 2 often surfaces vacancies in these tiers rather than in government colleges like CET Trivandrum or TKM Kollam. Candidates should avoid adding colleges or branches they would not actually join, since an unwanted upgrade allotment still requires accepting or risking the loss of the current seat depending on CEE Kerala's rules for that cycle.
