KEAM Rank = 50% (KEAM Score) + 50% (Class 12 PCM Marks)

Both scores are normalized before combining

Unlike most state entrance exams, KEAM weighs Class 12 marks equally with the exam score. If your Class 12 PCM aggregate is high (90%+), your effective KEAM rank can be significantly better than just the exam score suggests. Conversely, a poor Class 12 performance can bring down an otherwise good exam score.

How to Fill Options on CEE Kerala Portal — Step by Step

Go to cee.kerala.gov.in and log in with your KEAM 2026 application number and password set during registration.

Navigate to Option Registration

Click on 'Option Registration' link in your dashboard. This is what Kerala calls 'choice filling'.

Browse Available Courses

Browse available college-branch combinations. Use filters for district, college type (Govt/Aided/SF), and branch.

Add Options to Your List

Click 'Add' on each college-branch combination you want. They get added to your option list.

Order Your Options

Arrange your options in strict order of preference — your top choice at position 1. Use drag-and-drop or the up/down arrows.

Review All Choices

Review the complete list carefully. Verify college names, branch names, and order. Check for any duplicate or wrong entries.

Lock Options

Once satisfied, click 'Lock Options'. This is final for this round. You will get a confirmation. Download/print the locked option list.

Rank-wise Strategy for KEAM 2026 Option Filling

KEAM Rank: Rank 1 – 1,000

You are eligible for top government colleges like CET Thiruvananthapuram, GEC Thrissur, and NIT Calicut state quota. Prioritize these first. Add all government college + CSE/IT/ECE combinations. NIT Calicut CSE (state quota) closes around rank 200–800.

KEAM Rank: Rank 1,000 – 5,000

Target top government-aided colleges like TKM College, MACE, NSS College of Engineering. Government college seats for ECE/EEE/Mechanical may still be available. Add government and top aided college options first, then self-financing backups.

KEAM Rank: Rank 5,000 – 20,000

Government colleges for core branches may be out of reach. Focus on top aided and reputed self-financing colleges. Prioritize branches like CSE, IT, ECE in the best available colleges. Add multiple self-financing options as safety nets.

KEAM Rank: Rank 20,000+

Self-financing colleges are the main option. Research placement records carefully — quality varies significantly among Kerala's 150+ private engineering colleges. Choose colleges with NAAC A grade and good placement history.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in KEAM Option Filling

Wrong ordering: Placing a lower preference above a higher one. The algorithm gives your highest available option — never put a less-preferred option first "to be safe".
Too few options: Filling only 5–10 options. If you don't get any of them, you get no allotment. Add every option you'd be willing to accept.
Not checking category eligibility: Some seats are category-specific (SC/ST/OBC/EWS). Verify you have the right certificate before adding those options.
Forgetting to lock: Saved options without locking are NOT final. Always click "Lock Options" before the deadline.
Using a shared device without logging out: Always log out after filling options on a shared computer to prevent unauthorized changes.
