How JoSAA Rank Prediction Works in 2026

JoSAA 2026 is allocating approximately 55,000+ seats across 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs and 33 GFTIs. Seat allotment is based on your JEE Main CRL rank (for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs) or JEE Advanced rank (for IITs) against programme-wise opening and closing ranks.

Rank prediction uses JoSAA 2025 Round 6 closing ranks as the primary reference. Our predictor maps your rank to programmes where your rank falls within the historical opening–closing range, accounting for category quotas, home state quota (HS) and other-state quota (OS).

Home state quota matters significantly. For NITs, 50% of seats are reserved for home state candidates. If you are from Tamil Nadu, your chances at NIT Trichy improve substantially even at a CRL rank of 3,000–5,000 (vs 1,100 for other-state candidates).

For IITs, JEE Advanced 2026 results (declared June 1, 2026) determine your IIT rank. JoSAA 2026 ran 5 regular rounds: Round 1 (June 13), Round 2 (June 30), Round 3 (July 6), Round 4 (July 10) and the final Round 5 (July 16, 2026).

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JoSAA rank prediction for 2026

1
What rank do I need for NIT Trichy CSE in JoSAA 2026?
Based on JoSAA 2025 Round 6 closing ranks, NIT Trichy CSE (CRL, gender-neutral) closed around rank 1,100. In 2026, expect a similar range of 900–1,300 depending on total candidates and score distribution.
2
What JEE Main rank is needed for any NIT?
With a CRL rank under 50,000, you have good chances at NITs in less competitive branches. Under 25,000 opens up mid-tier NIT CSE/ECE options. Under 10,000 puts you in contention for top NIT core branches.
3
How does JoSAA use JEE rank for seat allotment?
JoSAA uses CRL (Common Rank List) for open category seats and separate category ranks (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS) for reserved seats. Ranks are matched against institute-wise opening and closing ranks round by round.
4
Can I predict IIT seats with JoSAA rank predictor?
Yes, if you have a JEE Advanced rank. IIT seat prediction uses JEE Advanced CRL and category ranks against IIT-specific cutoffs from previous JoSAA rounds. Our tool covers both JEE Main (NIT/IIIT/GFTI) and JEE Advanced (IIT) predictions.
5
What is the difference between opening and closing rank in JoSAA?
Opening rank is the highest rank (numerically smallest) allotted in a round; closing rank is the lowest rank (numerically largest) allotted. You need your rank to be between (or better than) the opening rank and at/before the closing rank to be eligible.
