JoSAA 2026 Registration Date & Fee

Start Date · Last Date · Registration Fee · Seat Acceptance Fee · All Deadlines

All key dates confirmed. Registration and choice filling closed June 11, 2026. Rounds 1–4 allotments released (June 13, June 30, July 6, July 10). Round 5 (final) allotment: July 16, 2026.

Understanding the JoSAA 2026 Registration Window

JoSAA registration opens for candidates only after JEE Advanced results are declared, since eligibility for IIT seats requires a valid JEE Advanced rank while eligibility for NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats is based on JEE Main rank — the portal is designed to accept both categories of candidates once the results that determine their eligibility are out. This means the exact registration start date shifts slightly each year depending on when JEE Advanced results are released, rather than being fixed to a specific calendar date across years.

Once registration opens, candidates must complete two distinct actions within the same window before the deadline: registering on the JoSAA portal (creating your login and confirming your basic eligibility details), and separately filling and locking your choice list of institute-branch combinations in order of preference. Simply registering without filling and locking choices does not make you eligible for seat allotment — the choice list is what the allotment algorithm actually runs against, so missing this step even after successful registration effectively removes you from the counselling process for that round.

What Happens If You Miss the Registration Deadline

Unlike some other admission processes that occasionally offer a late registration window with an additional penalty fee, JoSAA has consistently maintained a hard deadline with no late-entry provision. Once the registration and choice-filling window closes, the portal simply stops accepting new registrations or choice list submissions for that admission cycle — there is no mechanism to appeal, pay a late fee, or request an extension on an individual basis. This makes the registration deadline one of the most unforgiving dates in the entire JEE-to-JoSAA pipeline, and candidates are strongly advised to register as soon as the portal opens rather than waiting until the final days.

If you miss the JoSAA registration window entirely, your options for that year's admission cycle become significantly narrower. You would not be eligible for JoSAA-coordinated seats at IITs, NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs, though depending on timing you might still explore other, separate counselling processes for state or private institutions that run on independent schedules. This is precisely why tracking the exact registration dates for the current year — rather than relying on rough memory of when it happened in a previous year — is critical, since even a delay of a day or two can permanently close the door on JoSAA participation for that admission cycle.

JoSAA 2026 Fee Structure

CategoryRegistration FeeSeat Acceptance FeeTotal (approx.)
General / OBC-NCL / EWS (Male)~₹350₹35,000~₹35,350
General / OBC-NCL / EWS (Female)~₹200₹35,000~₹35,200
SC / ST / PwD (All)~₹0–₹200₹15,000~₹15,000–₹15,200
Note: Registration fee is non-refundable. Seat acceptance fee is adjusted against first-semester tuition. If you don't get a seat, you only pay the registration fee.

Preparing Before Registration Opens

Since the registration and choice-filling window is relatively short and cannot be extended, it pays to prepare well before the portal actually opens. This includes having your JEE Main and/or JEE Advanced roll number and application details ready, keeping scanned copies of required documents (category certificates, income certificates for EWS if applicable, PwD certificates if applicable, and photo identification) in the correct format and size specified by JoSAA, and researching your target institutes and branches in advance using previous years' opening and closing rank data so you're not building your choice list from scratch under time pressure.

It also helps to keep the seat acceptance fee amount ready in advance (in a bank account or payment method you can access quickly), since the fee payment deadline after each round is typically short — commonly in the range of 48 to 72 hours based on past JoSAA schedules — and missing it due to payment issues like insufficient funds or a card limit can cost you an allotted seat entirely. Treating the registration fee and potential seat acceptance fee as a planned expense ahead of counselling season, rather than something to arrange reactively, removes one more point of stress from an already fast-moving process.

Step-by-Step JoSAA Registration Process

  1. Create your JoSAA login: Use your JEE Main or JEE Advanced application number and password/date of birth to log in to the JoSAA portal for the first time.
  2. Pay the registration fee: Complete the one-time, category/gender-dependent registration payment online via net banking, card, or UPI to activate your counselling account.
  3. Fill your choices: Build an ordered list of institute-branch combinations you're willing to accept, typically ranking your most preferred option first. You can add, remove, and reorder choices multiple times until the window closes.
  4. Lock your choices: Before the deadline, you must explicitly lock your final choice list — an unlocked list may or may not be considered depending on that year's rules, so locking is strongly recommended well before the last date.
  5. Participate in mock allotments (optional but recommended): JoSAA typically releases one or two mock allotment rounds before the real Round 1, letting you see where your current choice order would place you and adjust accordingly.
  6. Await Round 1 allotment and respond: After each round's allotment is published, you must respond within the payment deadline — choosing to accept and freeze, accept and upgrade (float), or decline — along with paying the seat acceptance fee if applicable.

1
When will JoSAA 2026 registration start and end?
JoSAA 2026 registration opened June 2, 2026 and closed June 11, 2026. Round 1 allotment was released June 13, 2026, and all five rounds concluded with the final Round 5 allotment on July 16, 2026. Check josaa.nic.in for official archived data.
2
What is the registration fee for JoSAA 2026?
Based on JoSAA 2025 fee structure: General/OBC-NCL/EWS male candidates paid approximately ₹350. Female candidates and SC/ST/PwD candidates paid ₹0–₹200. This is a non-refundable processing fee. JoSAA 2026 registration (June 2–11, 2026) has concluded; verify the exact amounts charged via the archived 2026 records on josaa.nic.in.
3
Is the JoSAA registration fee different from the seat acceptance fee?
Yes. Registration fee (₹200–₹350) is paid at the time of registration — it is small and non-refundable. Seat acceptance fee (₹35,000 for General/OBC/EWS; ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD) is paid only after you receive a seat allotment in any round — this is larger and gets adjusted against tuition fee.
4
Can I register for JoSAA 2026 after the last date?
No. JoSAA has a strict registration deadline. After the window closes, the portal does not accept new registrations. There is no late fee option or extended window. Missing the deadline means you cannot participate in JoSAA 2026 counselling.
5
Is there a separate choice-filling fee apart from the registration fee?
No. JoSAA does not charge a separate fee for filling or locking your choice list — the one-time registration fee (₹200–₹350 depending on category and gender) covers both registration and choice-filling. The only other payment in the process is the seat acceptance fee, which is charged only if and when you receive an allotment in any round.
6
What documents should I keep ready before JoSAA registration opens?
Keep scanned copies ready in the specified format and size: JEE Main/JEE Advanced admit card and scorecard, Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and passing certificates, category certificate (OBC-NCL/SC/ST, if applicable), EWS income-and-asset certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), domicile/state certificate for home-state quota claims, passport-size photograph, and a valid photo ID. Having these ready in advance avoids delays during the short registration window.
7
Can I change my category or gender details after submitting JoSAA registration?
Generally no, or only in very limited circumstances before the registration window closes — category and gender details you submit are used to determine your applicable registration fee, reservation eligibility, and seat matrix visibility, so errors should be corrected immediately within the portal before the deadline rather than assumed fixable afterward. Document verification at the reporting stage can also flag mismatches, so accuracy at registration time matters.
8
Does the JoSAA registration fee refund if I don't get any seat allotment?
No. The registration fee is explicitly non-refundable regardless of whether you receive a seat allotment in any round. It is a processing fee for participating in counselling, distinct from the seat acceptance fee, which you only pay after being allotted a seat and which does get adjusted against your first-semester tuition if you join.
