JoSAA 2027 Round 3 – Mid-Counselling Upgrade Round Explained
Continued Upgrades · Fresh Allotments · Withdrawal Deadlines
Disclaimer: JoSAA 2027 Round 3 dates are not yet published. This page explains the stable mid-counselling process from past cycles (2024–2026) as an evergreen guide. The total number of rounds for 2027 isn't known — 2025 had 6 rounds, 2026 had 5. Verify specifics at josaa.nic.in once released.
Round 3: Continued Progressive Upgrades
Round 3 continues the same rank-based re-matching mechanism as Rounds 1 and 2: seats vacated through withdrawals, non-reporting, or upgrades become available to candidates still Floating or Sliding, and the algorithm checks if any higher preference on each candidate's locked list is now reachable.
By this stage, movement for most candidates tends to slow down compared to Round 1-to-2 since many seats and candidates have already settled — but this is a general pattern, not a guarantee, and varies by branch, institute, and category each year.
What Typically Happens in Round 3
- 1
Seat Vacancy Recalculation
Seats freed from Round 2 (withdrawals, non-reporting, upgrades-out) are tallied.
- 2
Re-matching for Floating/Sliding Candidates
Eligible candidates are checked against higher choices on their locked list.
- 3
Possible First Allotments
Candidates not yet allotted in Rounds 1-2 may receive a seat if one opens up.
- 4
Result and Response
Freeze, Float, or Slide again based on the Round 3 outcome.
- 5
Reporting / Document Confirmation
Complete any reporting steps required for your Round 3 status.
Tips for Round 3
- Re-evaluate your priorities — if movement has stalled, decide if the remaining upside is worth staying in Float.
- Double-check that your documents are ready, as reporting requirements can tighten closer to mid-counselling.
- Track official notices for any changes to Freeze/Float/Slide rules, which can occasionally be revised mid-cycle.
- Avoid missing response deadlines — a missed response can sometimes be treated as a forfeiture.
