JoSAA 2026 – What Happens After Round 5 Final Allotment?
Physical reporting, CSAB for unallotted candidates, institute fee, documents, and hostel allotment — everything after JoSAA ends
Two Paths After Round 5 (Final)
If You Have a Seat (Allotted)
- Report physically to your allotted institute within the deadline
- Carry all original documents for verification
- Pay institute fee (tuition + hostel)
- Complete medical examination at institute
- Collect ID card and complete enrollment
If You Are Not Allotted
- Register for CSAB 2026 (opens 2–3 days after JoSAA Round 5)
- Fill a wider choice list than you did in JoSAA
- Simultaneously apply to state counselling (UPTAC, TANCET, etc.)
- Explore BITSAT, VITEEE, and private college admissions
- Consider a gap year with improved preparation
Physical Reporting Process
Physical reporting is the final step where you visit your allotted institute in person to complete the admission formalities. The reporting window after Round 5 (July 16, 2026) is typically 3–5 days — tight, so plan your travel immediately after seeing the allotment.
What happens at reporting:
- Document verification: Institute staff check all your originals against the details you submitted in JoSAA. Discrepancies can lead to admission cancellation.
- Institute fee payment: Pay the remaining institute fees (tuition, hostel, mess advance). The Rs.45,000 / Rs.20,000 JoSAA acceptance fee is adjusted against this total.
- Medical examination: A basic health check is done at the institute's medical center. Certain branch-specific fitness requirements may apply.
- Enrollment and ID card: After clearing verification, you are formally enrolled and receive your student ID.
- Hostel allotment: Most institutes allot hostel rooms during the reporting period. Fill the hostel preference form early.
CSAB 2026 – Next Option for Unallotted Candidates
CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) is the second chance after JoSAA. It fills vacant NIT, IIIT, and GFTI seats using the same JEE Main rank and registration details. Key differences from JoSAA:
- CSAB has only 2 main rounds (vs. 5 in JoSAA)
- Vacancies are typically in less-popular branches (Civil, Chemical, Metallurgy) or NE region NITs
- Registration is on csab.nic.in — same JEE login credentials
- You can add new choices in CSAB that you did not fill in JoSAA
- CSAB runs for approximately 15–20 days total
