CSAB Dates

CSAB 2026 Registration Start Date – When Does CSAB Begin?

Expected CSAB 2026 timeline, registration process, eligibility, and everything you need to prepare before csab.nic.in opens.

When Does CSAB 2026 Start?

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) 2026 is expected to begin in the last week of July 2026. Specifically, registration on csab.nic.in typically opens 2–3 days after the JoSAA Round 5 physical reporting deadline. Since JoSAA Round 5 reporting is expected to end around July 24–26, 2026, CSAB registration should open approximately on July 23–25, 2026.

The official CSAB 2026 schedule will be published on csab.nic.in after JoSAA announces its Round 5 results and reporting deadlines. Bookmark that page and check it daily once JoSAA Round 5 results are out — the transition from JoSAA to CSAB happens quickly.

The entire CSAB counselling process spans approximately 15–20 days from registration to physical reporting. This is a tight timeline, so it is critical to prepare your documents in advance and monitor csab.nic.in regularly.

How to Register on csab.nic.in

Step 1

Visit csab.nic.in

Go to the official CSAB portal. Do not use any third-party site for CSAB registration.

Step 2

Log in with JEE Main credentials

Use your JEE Main 2026 Application Number and password — the same credentials used for JoSAA on josaa.nic.in.

Step 3

Complete registration details

Verify personal information, contact details, category, and upload a recent passport-size photograph if required.

Step 4

Fill your new CSAB choice list

This is a separate choice list from JoSAA. Search for institutes, add branch-institute combinations, and arrange them in order of preference.

Step 5

Lock your choices before deadline

CSAB choice filling has a strict deadline. Lock your final list well before the cutoff — late submissions are not accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about CSAB 2026 registration date and timeline

1
When will CSAB 2026 registration open?
CSAB 2026 registration is expected to open approximately 2–3 days after the JoSAA Round 5 physical reporting deadline ends. Based on historical patterns, this places CSAB registration opening around July 23–25, 2026. However, exact dates will only be confirmed when the official CSAB 2026 schedule is released on csab.nic.in.
2
Do I need to register separately for CSAB if I was already registered in JoSAA?
Yes. Even though CSAB uses the same login credentials as JoSAA (your JEE Main Application Number and password on csab.nic.in), you must separately visit csab.nic.in and complete the CSAB 2026 registration process. You will need to fill a new choice list — your JoSAA choices do not carry over to CSAB.
3
Who is eligible to register for CSAB 2026?
You are eligible for CSAB 2026 if: (1) You appeared in JEE Main 2026 and qualify the eligibility criteria for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, AND (2) You did NOT physically report to any institute after JoSAA (i.e., you either did not get a JoSAA seat, withdrew before physical reporting, or did not respond to your JoSAA allotment). Candidates who physically reported at a JoSAA-allotted institute are NOT eligible for CSAB.
4
Can I participate in CSAB if I froze my JoSAA seat?
If you froze your JoSAA seat and then withdrew from the counselling before physically reporting to the institute, you can still participate in CSAB. However, if you have already physically reported to and enrolled in your JoSAA-allotted institute, you are not eligible for CSAB. The key distinction is whether physical reporting has occurred.
5
What is the difference between csab.nic.in and josaa.nic.in?
josaa.nic.in is the portal for JoSAA counselling (IITs + NITs + IIITs + GFTIs, 5 rounds). csab.nic.in is the separate portal for CSAB counselling (NITs + IIITs + GFTIs only, 2 rounds). Both use the same JEE login credentials, but they are distinct portals with separate registration, choice lists, and allotment processes. Always verify you are on the correct portal when completing tasks.
