Pro Tips for Reporting Day

  • Use a folder with labeled sections: Separate your originals from photocopies. Label each section (Class 10, Class 12, Category, etc.) so you can quickly retrieve any document at any verification desk.
  • Arrive early: Reporting queues are long, especially on the first day. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the reporting desk opens.
  • Check OBC certificate validity: OBC-NCL certificates must be current year and specifically state "non-creamy layer". An expired certificate will not be accepted.
  • Medical certificate format: Many institutes provide a specific format for the medical fitness certificate. Download and use their format rather than a generic one.
  • Online document submission: Many institutes now require you to upload documents on their portal before physical reporting. Complete this step well in advance.
1
How many photocopies of each document should I carry?
Carry at least 4–6 sets of photocopies for every document, along with all originals. Different desks at the institute (document verification, fee payment, hostel, medical) may require separate copies. Bringing extra copies is always safer than being short.
2
What if my category certificate is not ready by the reporting date?
If your category (OBC/SC/ST/EWS) certificate is not available, contact the institute immediately. Most institutes have a provisional admission process where you can submit a declaration and submit the certificate within a stipulated period. However, this is at the institute's discretion — it is always better to get the certificate before the reporting date.
3
What is the anti-ragging undertaking and how do I get it?
The anti-ragging undertaking is a declaration (signed by both the student and parent/guardian) stating that the student will not engage in ragging and understands the consequences. The format is usually available on the JoSAA portal and the institute's website. Download it, fill it out, and carry printed copies with signatures.
4
Do I need a migration certificate at the time of reporting?
Some institutes require a migration certificate from your Class 12 board at the time of reporting; others allow you to submit it within 30–60 days of joining. The JoSAA allotment letter and the institute's admission portal will specify whether it is required on Day 1. Check the institute's specific instructions.
5
What happens if my documents have a name spelling mismatch?
Name mismatches between documents (e.g., different spelling in Class 10 vs Aadhar vs JEE application) can cause serious issues during reporting. If you have such a mismatch, get an affidavit from a notary explaining the discrepancy, carry it with all documents. Contact the institute's admission office in advance to understand their policy on this.
