What to Do After JoSAA Seat Allotment

Complete step-by-step guide — from checking allotment to fee payment, document upload, Freeze/Float/Slide, and physical reporting

9-Step Action Plan After Seat Allotment

1

Check Your Allotment Result

Log in to josaa.nic.in → My Dashboard → View Allotment. Download the provisional allotment letter. Check college, branch, category, and reporting date carefully.

2

Evaluate Your Options

Satisfied with current allotment? → Choose Freeze. Want a better college/branch? → Choose Float (keeps current seat). Want a better branch in the SAME institute? → Choose Slide.

3

Pay Seat Acceptance Fee

Pay within 48–72 hours of allotment. General / OBC-NCL: ₹35,000. SC / ST / PwD: ₹15,000. Pay online via josaa.nic.in. Save payment receipt.

4

Upload Required Documents

Upload Class 10 & 12 marksheets, JEE scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), photo ID, photograph, and signature. All documents must be legible and in correct format.

5

Download Provisional Allotment Letter

After payment and document upload, download and save the provisional allotment letter. This is proof of your seat and needed at institute reporting.

6

Wait for Next Round or Prepare to Report

If you chose Float/Slide → wait for the next round's allotment. If you chose Freeze → begin preparing for physical reporting. Keep checking josaa.nic.in for updates.

7

Physical Reporting at Institute

After your final allotment (or after choosing Freeze), travel to the allotted institute. Carry all original documents plus multiple photocopies. Complete document verification and biometric registration.

8

Pay Remaining Institute Fees

Pay the remaining semester/annual fees directly to the institute. Fees vary: IITs ~₹2.2 lakh/year; NITs ~₹1.25–1.75 lakh/year; IIITs vary. Get fee receipts and keep records.

9

Attend Orientation / Induction

Most institutes conduct a 3–7 day orientation programme before regular classes begin. Attend all mandatory sessions, collect your ID card, and complete hostel allotment formalities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about what to do after JoSAA seat allotment

1
What to do immediately after JoSAA seat allotment?
Log in to josaa.nic.in, view your allotment letter, and decide whether to accept the seat. If accepting, pay the seat acceptance fee (₹35,000 for General/OBC, ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD) within the given window (usually 48–72 hours). Then choose your response: Freeze, Float, or Slide. Missing the fee deadline means forfeiting the allotment.
2
How do I accept a JoSAA seat?
After logging into josaa.nic.in and viewing your allotment, go to the 'Respond to Seat Allotment' section. Pay the seat acceptance fee online using net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card. After payment, select your response (Freeze/Float/Slide) and upload required documents. Download and save your provisional allotment letter.
3
What documents to upload after JoSAA allotment?
You need to upload: Class 10 marksheet, Class 12 marksheet, JEE scorecard, category certificate (if applicable: OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, PwD), date of birth proof, photograph, and signature. Specific document requirements may vary by institute — check the JoSAA portal and your allotted institute's instructions.
4
Can I change my mind after freezing a JoSAA seat?
Once you choose Freeze, you exit the upgrade rounds but you can still withdraw from JoSAA entirely if you do not wish to join. However, withdrawing after payment means forfeiting the seat acceptance fee. You cannot switch from Freeze back to Float once confirmed. Choose carefully — Freeze only if you are 100% satisfied with the current allotment.
5
What if I miss the JoSAA fee payment deadline?
Missing the fee payment deadline means your seat allotment is automatically cancelled. You will not be considered in subsequent rounds unless JoSAA provides a special window (which is rare). Always pay well before the deadline and keep payment confirmation. If facing technical issues, contact JoSAA helpline immediately.
