JEE counselling 2026 is not a single process but a multi-phase ecosystem of parallel and sequential admission processes. Understanding all phases is critical to maximizing your options.

The primary path for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is through JoSAA 2026. If you don't secure a seat there, CSAB 2026 provides additional NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats. State counselling (KCET, WBJEE, MHT-CET, etc.) and private college exams (BITSAT, VITEEE) run in parallel.

The smart strategy is to participate in multiple processes simultaneously to maximize optionality, then choose the best outcome at decision time.

Can I do JoSAA and state counselling both at the same time?
Yes. JoSAA and state counselling processes run in parallel. You can participate in both simultaneously. However, you must eventually choose one — if you accept a JoSAA seat (pay fee), then accept a state counselling seat, you will typically need to surrender one. Plan your preferences and finances accordingly.

Should I prioritize JoSAA or state counselling?
It depends on your rank and goals. If you have a good JoSAA rank (potential for NIT/IIIT/IIT seat), JoSAA should be your primary focus. If your JoSAA rank isn't strong enough for your target colleges, state counselling (KCET, WBJEE, MHT-CET, etc.) often provides excellent government engineering colleges in your state at lower fees. Many candidates participate in both and choose the better outcome.

What should I do immediately after JEE Main result?
After JEE Main result: (1) Check your percentile and rank on jeemain.nta.nic.in. (2) If rank is in top 2.5 lakh, start preparing for JEE Advanced 2026. (3) If not taking JEE Advanced or failed to qualify, focus on JoSAA strategy — check college options using our College Predictor, understand home state quota, and start documenting your certificates. (4) Also register for relevant state counselling and private college exams (BITSAT, VITEEE, etc.).

What is the current status of JoSAA 2026?
JoSAA registration closed June 11, 2026. All 5 rounds are complete (June 13, June 30, July 6, July 10, and the final Round 5 on July 16) — there is no Round 6. NIT+ partial fee payment (PAF) window runs July 22–24. Log in to josaa.nic.in to check your final allotment status.
