Seat Acceptance Fee Amounts

The seat acceptance fee is the same for all JoSAA allottees across all rounds — the amount is determined by your category, not the round or the institute:

All General, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and EWS category candidates

SC / ST / PwD

Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and all Persons with Disability candidates

Important: Who Needs to Pay in Round 2?

First-time allottees in Round 2: Must pay the full fee by ~July 3. This includes candidates who were not allotted in Round 1 but received their first seat in Round 2.
Round 1 allottees upgraded in Round 2: Fee transfers automatically. Must still log in and confirm acceptance + select Freeze/Float/Slide. No re-payment required.
Round 1 allottees with same seat in Round 2 (no upgrade): Fee already paid. Must reconfirm and select Freeze/Float/Slide. No new payment.
Not allotted in either round: No fee due. No action required.

Step-by-Step Fee Payment Process

Visit josaa.nic.in and log in with your JEE Main Application Number and JoSAA password. If the portal is slow due to high traffic, try during off-peak hours (early morning 5–8 AM). Do not attempt payment through any other website.

View Your Allotment Letter

Navigate to 'View Allotment Letter' to confirm your seat details — institute, branch, category, and seat type. Verify all information is correct before proceeding to payment. Note any discrepancies and contact the helpdesk immediately.

Select Freeze / Float / Slide

Before or alongside payment, select your response choice. Freeze locks your seat. Float allows further upgrade attempts in Rounds 3–5. Slide seeks a branch upgrade at the same institute. You must make this selection — it is mandatory.

Click 'Pay Acceptance Fee'

Click on the fee payment button in your dashboard. You will be redirected to the official payment gateway. Do not close the browser window or click back during this process — payment may fail mid-transaction.

Choose Your Payment Method

Select from: Net Banking (all major banks), Debit Card (Visa/Mastercard/RuPay), Credit Card, or UPI (BHIM, GPay, PhonePe). Ensure your bank account has sufficient balance and your daily transaction limit is set high enough (₹35,000 for General/OBC/EWS candidates).

Complete Payment and Save Receipt

Complete the transaction. You will be redirected back to josaa.nic.in with a confirmation screen showing your transaction ID. Download the fee payment receipt PDF immediately. Save it to multiple locations — email, cloud, and local storage. This receipt is required at institute reporting.

Verify Payment Status

After completing payment, your portal dashboard should update to show 'Fee Paid' status within 15–30 minutes. If it doesn't update within 2 hours, note your transaction ID and bank reference number and contact the JoSAA helpdesk at 011-40759000.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?

Allotment Cancelled — Permanently

If the fee payment deadline passes without payment, JoSAA automatically cancels your Round 2 allotment with no reinstatement. You lose the specific seat you were allotted — permanently. You cannot recover the cancelled allotment through any appeal or helpdesk request.

But You Still Remain in JoSAA (If Not Round 5)

Crucially — missing the fee for Round 2 does NOT remove you from future rounds (3, 4, 5) completely. You lose the specific Round 2 allotment, but you may still receive a different allotment in Rounds 3–5 from the remaining unmatched seat pool. However, the specific Round 2 seat you missed is gone.

Technical Failure Exception

If your payment failed due to a genuine technical error (bank gateway down, payment deducted but not credited), contact the JoSAA helpdesk immediately at 011-40759000 with: (1) Transaction ID, (2) Bank reference number, (3) Screenshot of the failed transaction, (4) Bank statement showing the deduction. JoSAA has a resolution process for proven technical failures — but act within hours, not days.

Refund Policy After Fee Payment

The seat acceptance fee is partially refundable under specific circumstances:
