About JoSAA 2026 Round 2

Round 2 is the second allotment round of JoSAA 2026. After Round 1 (June 13), candidates who accepted seats and chose Float or Slide are automatically considered for upgrades in Round 2. Candidates who received no seat in Round 1 are also re-evaluated.

Round 2 typically brings significant movement: candidates who got top IIT/NIT seats in Round 1 may Freeze and exit the pool, freeing up seats for the next candidate in the merit list. This is why many candidates improve from Round 1 to Round 2 — especially for NITs and IIITs.

JoSAA 2026 has 5 rounds total (no Round 6 this year). After Round 2, there are still 3 more rounds (3, 4, and 5) giving ample opportunity for upgrades.

Steps to Follow After Round 2 Result

1

Check Your Round 2 Allotment

Go to josaa.nic.in → Login with JEE credentials → Click 'View Seat Allotment'. Download the allotment letter. Check the institute, program, category, and fee carefully.

2

Compare with Round 1 (if applicable)

If you got an upgrade, your previous seat is automatically released. If no change occurred (same seat), your Round 1 acceptance carries forward. Confirm you are satisfied or decide to keep Floating for Round 3.

3

Accept the Seat & Choose Freeze / Float / Slide

Log in to josaa.nic.in and select your response: Freeze (confirm, no more upgrades), Float (keep seat + try for upgrade in Round 3), or Slide (upgrade only within same institute). Most candidates should Float unless fully satisfied.

4

Pay Seat Acceptance Fee (if required)

If you received an upgrade in Round 2 and had not paid before, pay ₹35,000 (Gen/OBC/EWS) or ₹15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) within the deadline. If you already paid in Round 1, you typically do not pay again for the same category.

5

Upload / Verify Documents

Ensure your documents (marksheets, category certificate, JEE scorecards, photo, ID) are uploaded correctly on josaa.nic.in. Incomplete document submission can affect admission even after fee payment.

What to Do Based on Your Round 2 Situation

Got an upgrade

Your Float worked. Accept the new seat and decide Freeze or Float for Round 3. If the upgrade is your ideal choice — Freeze. If you still want better — Float.

No change (same seat as Round 1)

Nothing opened up for your rank yet. Keep Floating — Rounds 3 and 4 often see even more movement as more candidates finalize. Do not Freeze prematurely.

Got a seat for the first time (was unallotted in Round 1)

Accept the seat and pay the fee. Choose Float to try for a better option in Rounds 3–5, or Freeze if you're happy. Not paying the fee will remove you from further rounds.

Still no seat after Round 2

Remain in the pool — do not withdraw. You still have Rounds 3, 4, and 5. Also check whether your choice list is broad enough: consider adding more institutes/programs to maximize chances.

Round 2 Strategy Tips

  • Float in Round 2 unless you have your dream seat. There are still 3 rounds left — premature Freezing costs you potential upgrades.
  • Round 2 often has the biggest movement after Round 1 — many Round 1 allottees Freeze and exit, freeing top seats for the next candidates in merit list.
  • Check the deadline carefully. Missing the Round 2 response deadline means your allotment is cancelled. Set a calendar reminder for July 2–3.
  • If unallotted in Round 2, do not add worse options to your list out of panic — only add options you'd genuinely join. Bad additions can cause you to be allotted to an unwanted institute.
  • Seat acceptance fee is not refundable if you later Withdraw from JoSAA voluntarily. Only exit if you have a confirmed seat elsewhere.

JoSAA 2026 Round 2 – FAQs

Common questions about JoSAA 2026 Round 2 seat allotment, upgrades, and deadlines

1
When is JoSAA 2026 Round 2 allotment result?
JoSAA 2026 Round 2 seat allotment result is declared on June 30, 2026. Candidates can check their allotment on josaa.nic.in using their JEE login credentials. The result is typically available from morning on the declared date.
2
What should I do if I get an upgraded seat in Round 2?
If your Round 2 allotment is better than Round 1 (you Floated), your previous seat is automatically released and you now hold the new seat. You must: (1) Accept the new allotment online. (2) Pay any additional fee difference if applicable. (3) Choose Freeze, Float, or Slide for Round 3. Your Round 1 fee payment carries over — you generally do not need to pay again unless there is a difference.
3
What if my allotment did not change in Round 2?
If you Floated in Round 1 but did not receive an upgrade in Round 2, it means no higher-preference seat became available for your rank. You continue to hold your Round 1 seat. You can still choose Float or Slide for Rounds 3, 4, and 5, where further movement is possible.
4
Can I still get an IIT seat from Round 2 onwards?
Yes. Many IIT seats open up from Round 2 onwards as candidates who accepted seats in Round 1 exit the system (join, or withdraw). Round 2 often sees significant movement — especially for mid-ranked candidates targeting IITs or top NITs. Keep your choice list optimal and choose Float.
5
I didn't get any seat in Round 1. What happens in Round 2?
If you were not allotted any seat in Round 1, you remain eligible for Rounds 2 through 5 automatically. JoSAA will evaluate your choices again in Round 2 against newly available seats. Do not withdraw from JoSAA — staying in the pool costs nothing and you may get an allotment in later rounds.
6
What is the fee payment deadline after Round 2?
The exact Round 2 fee payment deadline is announced along with the Round 2 result on June 30, 2026. Typically there is a window of 2–3 days. If you already paid the fee in Round 1 and received an upgrade in Round 2, you generally do not pay again unless your new allotment has a higher fee. Check josaa.nic.in for the exact deadline.
7
Should I choose Freeze or Float in Round 2?
Choose Freeze only if you are 100% satisfied with your Round 2 allotment and do not want to risk any change. Otherwise, choose Float — you keep your current seat as backup while JoSAA tries to upgrade you in Round 3 or 4. There are still 3 more rounds (3, 4, 5) after Round 2, so Float is the safer choice for most candidates.
