JoSAA 2026 Refund Policy
How much of your seat acceptance fee is refunded when you withdraw from JoSAA counselling
How JoSAA Refunds Work
When you accept a seat in JoSAA, you pay a seat acceptance fee. If you later decide to withdraw from the counselling process (before the withdrawal deadline closes), JoSAA refunds the seat acceptance fee minus a fixed processing charge.
This processing charge amount is specified in the official JoSAA information brochure for that counselling year — it is not the same every year, so always confirm the exact figure on josaa.nic.in.
The refund is credited back to the original payment source (bank account, card, or UPI) used during seat acceptance, generally within a few weeks of the withdrawal being processed.
When Can You Withdraw?
JoSAA allows withdrawal only within a specific window during the counselling rounds — once this window closes (usually a day or two after the final round's seat allotment), withdrawal and the associated refund are no longer available, and candidates who have reported are considered to have joined the institute.
If you're unsure whether to withdraw or try for an upgrade instead, review the Float vs Freeze vs Slide options before making a final decision — withdrawing exits you from the process entirely, while Float/Slide keep you eligible for better seats in later rounds.
