JoSAA 2026 Mock Allotment – How to Use It Effectively

Mock 1 vs Mock 2 · 5-Step Strategy · Dashboard Field Meanings · What Not to Panic About

JoSAA 2026 Mock Allotments: Overview

JoSAA released two mock allotments before Round 1 actual allotment — Mock 1 on June 8, 2026 (2:00 PM) and Mock 2 on June 10, 2026 (1:00 PM). Both are now past. They were simulation runs using the previous year's rank data.

Their purpose is practical: to show you where your current choice list would place you, so you can identify gaps and fix them while the choice editing window is still open. They are not predictions — treat them as diagnostic tools.

Both mock allotments are released before the choice filling window closes, in every JoSAA cycle. This is intentional — JoSAA gives candidates two chances to check and refine their list.

The choice filling window typically closes shortly after Mock 2. Choices cannot be edited once the window closes.

5-Step Process to Use Mock Allotment Optimally

1

Check which seat Mock 1 assigns you

Log in to josaa.nic.in, go to Seat Allotment tab, and view Mock Allotment 1 result. Note institute, programme, quota, and category.

2

If satisfied, verify the ordering above it

Confirm that choices ranked above your mock-allotted seat are correctly ordered with your most-preferred option at the top. Choices above are aspirational — keep them.

3

If no seat, identify highest realistic choice

Look at the latest available JoSAA closing ranks (available on josaa.nic.in). Find the first option where your rank is comfortably within the closing rank for your category.

4

Add 10–20 choices within your rank range

Bulk-add realistic choices — different programmes at the same institute, similar institutes in different locations. Having 40–60 choices is fine and advisable.

5

After Mock 2, do final check and lock

After Mock Allotment 2, do one final review. Ensure the order is correct, no obvious gaps, and then let the window close — do not change things at the last minute without reason.

Reading the Mock Allotment Dashboard

Understanding what each field on the mock allotment result page means:

Allocated Institute Name

The institute assigned in this mock run based on your choice rank and available seats.

Programme Name

The specific branch or degree programme (e.g., B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering).

Allotment Type

Whether this is a new allotment or an upgrade from a prior allotment in multi-round runs.

Quota

AI (All India), HS (Home State), OS (Other State). Determines which seat pool you drew from.

Category

OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, or PwD — the reservation category under which you were allotted.

Seat Type

GENDER-NEUTRAL (open to all) or FEMALE-ONLY (supernumerary seats reserved for female candidates).

Don't Panic Over Mock Allotment Result

Mock allotment is a simulation tool, not a verdict. A poor mock result does not mean you will get a poor seat — it means your choice list needs refinement, which you still have time to do.

Scenario: Got a college you don't want

Add more aspirational choices above it. The mock showed your safety net — now add better options above that safety net.

Scenario: Got no seat at all

This is fixable. Add 20–40 realistic choices promptly. Look at the latest available closing ranks on josaa.nic.in for your category and rank.

Scenario: Got your dream college

Great — but verify your rank is genuinely within range. If it is, your list is well-made. Make only minor adjustments.

Candidates who react calmly to mock results and make data-driven adjustments consistently fare better in actual allotments than those who panic-shuffle their entire list.

1
What if Mock Allotment 1 and Mock Allotment 2 show different results?
This is normal. Mock 2 may differ from Mock 1 if other candidates also made changes to their choices between the two runs. Use Mock 2 as the more accurate preview since it reflects the most current choice distributions.
2
After Mock Allotment 2, can I still change my choices?
Only if the choice filling window is still open — check josaa.nic.in for the exact deadline. Once the window closes, choices are permanently locked and cannot be changed for any reason.
3
Mock allotment shows me a FEMALE-ONLY seat. Is that normal?
If you are a female candidate, some seats allotted may be from the female supernumerary pool. This is valid and these seats often have better (lower) closing rank requirements than the gender-neutral pool for the same programme.
4
I got IIT Bombay CSE in Mock Allotment. Does that mean I will definitely get it?
Mock allotment uses previous year data. With 2026 actual ranks, the result may differ. IIT Bombay CSE typically requires a rank under 67 in the OPEN category. Verify your rank is firmly in this range before banking on this result.
5
Should I change my top choice based on mock allotment?
Only if mock allotment reveals your top choice is wildly unrealistic — requiring a rank far better than yours. Otherwise, keep aspirational choices at the top. That is the correct strategy: aspirational choices first, realistic safety nets below.
