JoSAA 2026 Mock Allotment 1 – How to Read & Improve Your Choices
What Mock Allotment Shows · How to Access It · What Changes to Make
What is JoSAA Mock Allotment 1?
In the JoSAA 2026 cycle, Mock Allotment 1 was released on June 8, 2026 (2:00 PM) — approximately 5 days before Round 1 actual allotment on June 13, 2026. It showed what seat a candidate would receive based on their current choice list and the previous year's rank data as a reference. In every JoSAA cycle, Mock Allotment 1 is published partway through the initial choice-filling window, before Round 1 actual allotment.
It is NOT the final allotment. It is a simulation designed to help you identify problems with your choice list — too few choices, wrong order, unrealistic aspirations — while you still have time to fix them.
The choice filling window remains open after Mock Allotment 1 is published. You can and should edit your choices based on what Mock 1 reveals, then check again after Mock 2.

How to Read Your Mock Allotment Result
Three scenarios and what each means for your action plan:
Scenario 1Got a seat you're happy with
Your choices are well-ordered. Your aspirational choices above the allotted seat may still be worth keeping — minor tweaks may help, but do not over-engineer your list.
Scenario 2Got a seat, but not your top choice
Choices ranked above the allotted one may be slightly out of reach OR may become available in actual rounds as rank distributions shift. Do not remove them — just verify their order is correct.
Scenario 3No seat allotted
Your top choices are too aspirational for your rank OR you have not added enough choices. Add more realistic options using recent closing rank data before Mock Allotment 2 is released.
What Changes to Make After Mock Allotment 1
The choice-filling window typically remains open to edit choices until Mock Allotment 2 is released — use that time to act on what Mock 1 reveals.
IF: No seat allotted
Add more realistic choices. Use the latest available closing ranks to find 20–30 options where your rank is within the allotted range.
High priorityIF: Only 1–2 choices filled total
Add many more choices. JoSAA strongly recommends filling as many as possible — there is no disadvantage to having 50+ choices.
High priorityIF: Aspirational choices are far above rank range
Reorder choices so that choices realistically achievable at your rank appear higher. Keep aspirational choices but push them below realistic ones.
IF: Happy with mock result and choices are well-ordered
Minor verification only. Check that the choice immediately above your mock allotment is correctly your next preference.
What Mock Allotment 1 Does NOT Tell You
Understanding the limitations of Mock Allotment 1 prevents misplaced confidence or unnecessary panic:
- ·It uses the previous year's ranks, not the current year's actual ranks — the rank distribution differs every year.
- ·New candidates registering after mock allotment can shift seat availability.
- ·Other candidates editing their choice lists between mock and actual allotment changes the competitive dynamics.
- ·Slight rank variations due to normalization in JEE Main can affect who gets what seat.
- ·It does not account for seats added or reduced by institutes in the current cycle.
