JoSAA 2026 Documents Required

Complete checklist of all documents needed for registration, online reporting, and physical verification at your allotted institute.

Why Document Preparation Matters

JoSAA 2026 has a strict two-stage document verification process: online document upload during reporting, and physical original document verification at the allotted institute. A single missing or invalid document can result in seat cancellation, even after fee payment. Preparing documents well in advance — especially category certificates — is critical.

JoSAA 2026 Documents – FAQs

Common questions about documents required for JoSAA 2026

1
What category certificate is needed for OBC-NCL candidates in JoSAA 2026?
OBC-NCL candidates must submit a Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued by a competent authority (SDM or above). The certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2026 (i.e., current financial year). Older certificates are not accepted. The certificate must state specifically that the candidate belongs to OBC and is not in the creamy layer.
2
Is Aadhar card mandatory for JoSAA 2026 document verification?
Aadhar card is the preferred photo identity, but other government-issued photo IDs (Voter ID, Passport, PAN card) are also accepted. However, Aadhar is often required for fee payment through the online portal. It is strongly recommended to have Aadhar available.
3
What are the photo specifications for JoSAA 2026 document upload?
The photograph must be a recent passport-size photo (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm) against a plain white or light background. The face must be clearly visible. File format should be JPEG/JPG with size between 10 KB and 200 KB. Photographs with caps, goggles, or unclear face visibility will be rejected.
4
Do I need to upload documents during registration or only at the time of reporting?
Documents are uploaded in two stages. During online registration/choice filling, you upload scanned soft copies (JEE scorecard, photo, Class 12 marksheet, category certificate). After seat allotment, during online reporting, you re-upload or verify documents. Physical originals are verified when you report to your allotted institute.
5
What is a Class 12 provisional certificate and when is it needed?
If your Class 12 board result was recently declared and the original certificate has not yet been issued by your board, you can submit the provisional pass certificate issued by your school principal or board. IITs/NITs accept this provisionally, but original certificates must be submitted before the end of the first semester.
