JEE Mains Session 2 College Predictor 2026

Predict colleges using your final, best-of-both-sessions JEE Main 2026 CRL rank

How the Best-of-Two-Sessions Rule Works

JEE Main is conducted across two sessions each year, and candidates who appear in both get their final NTA percentile calculated as the better of the two session scores. This final, best percentile is what's used to generate the CRL (Common Rank List) rank that feeds into JoSAA counselling.

Practically, this means appearing in Session 2 is a strictly no-downside decision for most candidates — your rank either improves or stays the same (your Session 1 score is never overridden by a worse Session 2 attempt). It's a second genuine opportunity to improve your counselling position.

Predicting Colleges After Session 2

Once your final (best-of-both) CRL rank is declared, use the JEE Main College Predictor with that confirmed rank rather than any provisional Session 1-only estimate. This ensures your shortlist reflects the rank JoSAA will actually use.

If you only have your Session 1 rank for now and are waiting on Session 2 results, you can still explore options using our JEE Mains Rank Analysis page to understand rank bands, and revisit the predictor once your final rank is out.

Frequently Asked Questions – Session 2 College Predictor

Common questions about using Session 2 results for college prediction

1
Which score is used for JoSAA counselling — Session 1 or Session 2?
JoSAA uses the better of your two NTA scores (Session 1 and Session 2) to compute your final CRL rank. If you appeared in both sessions, NTA automatically considers your higher percentile score across the two attempts when generating the final merit list — you don't need to choose which one counts.
2
Should I use my Session 1 rank or wait for the final rank to predict colleges?
If you've appeared in Session 2, wait for the final combined result before relying heavily on predictions, since your final rank (best of both sessions) is what JoSAA actually uses. You can use your Session 1 rank for rough early planning, but treat it as provisional.
3
Can my rank improve significantly after Session 2?
Yes. It's common for candidates to see a meaningful rank improvement after Session 2, especially if they performed better in the second attempt. Since the final rank takes your best score, appearing in Session 2 carries no downside — it can only help or leave your rank unchanged.
4
How soon after Session 2 results can I use the college predictor?
Once NTA declares the final JEE Main result with your combined/best CRL rank, you can immediately use the college predictor with that confirmed figure for the most reliable prediction, rather than an estimate based on Session 1 alone.
5
Does appearing in Session 2 change my category rank too?
Yes, category ranks (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS) are also recalculated using your best-of-two-sessions percentile, following the same best-score logic applied to the overall CRL rank.
