JEE Mains Percentile to Rank – Conversion Formula

The JEE Mains percentile to rank conversion uses the formula:

CRL Rank ≈ Total Qualified Candidates × (1 − Percentile ÷ 100)

For JEE Mains 2026, if approximately 12 lakh candidates qualify for rank (appear in both sessions): a percentile of 99 gives rank ≈ 12,000; percentile of 95 gives rank ≈ 60,000; percentile of 90 gives rank ≈ 1,20,000.

Note: The actual CRL rank depends on the exact number of qualified candidates and NTA's normalisation process across sessions. Use this formula for estimation only.

JEE Mains Percentile to Rank – FAQs

Questions about converting JEE Mains percentile to CRL rank for college prediction

1
How is JEE Mains percentile converted to rank?
JEE Mains rank is calculated as: Rank ≈ Total qualified candidates × (1 − Percentile/100). If 12 lakh candidates qualify and your percentile is 99, your approximate rank = 12,00,000 × (1 − 99/100) = 12,000. Note: NTA uses the exact percentile from the result (up to 7 decimal places) for final rank calculation.
2
What rank does 99 percentile give in JEE Mains 2026?
With 99 percentile in JEE Mains 2026, your expected CRL rank is approximately 9,000–12,000 (depending on total qualified candidates). This rank can get you CSE/ECE at mid-tier NITs or qualify you for JEE Advanced (cutoff usually around 85–95 percentile depending on category and year).
3
What rank does 95 percentile give in JEE Mains 2026?
95 percentile in JEE Mains 2026 corresponds to an approximate CRL rank of 55,000–65,000. This gives access to several NITs (non-CSE branches), GFTIs, and many state engineering colleges through state counselling using JEE Mains score.
4
What is the JEE Mains 2026 cutoff percentile for JEE Advanced?
The JEE Advanced 2026 qualifying cutoff percentile for General category was around 85–93 percentile in JEE Mains. Only the top ~2.5 lakh unique candidates (by rank) qualified for JEE Advanced 2026, and 56,880 candidates cleared JEE Advanced (result declared June 1, 2026).
5
Should I use percentile or rank for college prediction?
Always use your CRL rank for college prediction, not percentile. NIT/IIIT/GFTI closing ranks (from JoSAA) are expressed in rank, not percentile. Convert your percentile to rank first, then use the rank in the college predictor for accurate results.
