JEE Advanced Zone-Wise Rank Predictor 2026

Understand how IIT zones work and predict your rank — zone does NOT affect JoSAA allotment

JEE Advanced Zones Explained: IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati

JEE Advanced is conducted by one of the seven old IITs on rotation. For 2026, the conducting IIT determines the administrative zone structure. Every candidate is assigned to one of seven zones based on their registered state.

The key fact most students misunderstand: your zone has NO impact on your CRL rank. The rank list is compiled from all candidates across India based purely on marks. What matters is your total score in Paper 1 and Paper 2, whether you are in Zone 1 (IIT Bombay) or Zone 7 (IIT Roorkee).

Zones matter only for: (1) determining your exam centre location, (2) historically some DS (Defence Service) category calculations, and (3) preparatory course allotment in some years. For regular JoSAA 2026 counselling, zone plays no role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced zone-wise rank prediction

1
What are the JEE Advanced 2026 zones?
JEE Advanced 2026 has seven IIT zones: IIT Bombay (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, etc.), IIT Delhi (Delhi, UP, Uttarakhand, J&K, Rajasthan, etc.), IIT Guwahati (NE states, Bihar, parts of West Bengal), IIT Kanpur (MP, Chhattisgarh, parts of UP), IIT Kharagpur (West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andaman & Nicobar, Odisha), IIT Madras (AP, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala), and IIT Roorkee (Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, parts of UP).
2
Does zone affect JEE Advanced rank or just exam centre?
Zone only determines the exam centre — it does NOT affect your CRL (Common Rank List) rank. The JEE Advanced rank is purely based on your total marks. Zone-wise rank lists are prepared separately for the purpose of JoSAA counselling zone-wise preferences, but these are internal and do not determine IIT allotment directly.
3
Does zone affect which IIT I get in JoSAA?
No. JoSAA allotment is purely based on your CRL rank and the choice order you fill. You can fill any IIT in any zone at any position. There are no zone-based reservations for JoSAA seat allotment. Zone was historically used for some preparatory course and DS category calculations but not for general JoSAA allotment.
4
Which zone is easiest for JEE Advanced 2026?
The CRL rank is common across all zones — there is no 'easy' zone. However, the IIT Guwahati zone (NE states) and IIT Kanpur zone (certain states) historically have fewer candidates and slightly different score distributions. But since the rank list is consolidated, zone does not give any rank advantage.
5
How do I find my JEE Advanced 2026 zone?
Your zone is determined by the state you registered from (based on Class 12 board state). You can see your zone on your JEE Advanced admit card. The zone number appears on your hall ticket alongside your roll number. IIT Bombay zone = Zone 1, IIT Delhi = Zone 2, IIT Guwahati = Zone 3, IIT Kanpur = Zone 4, IIT Kharagpur = Zone 5, IIT Madras = Zone 6, IIT Roorkee = Zone 7.
