JEE Advanced Rank Predictor — 2025 Score-to-Rank Reference

Estimate your likely rank range from expected marks using the most recent full-cycle data available

Why 2025 Data Is the Right Reference Point

JEE Advanced doesn't use percentile the way JEE Main does — it operates on raw marks converted into a Common Rank List (CRL) based on total candidates who qualify and appear. Because the relationship between marks and rank depends heavily on the specific year's paper difficulty and applicant pool, the most reliable short-term reference is the most recently completed cycle: 2025.

A rank predicted using 2025 data should be treated as a working estimate, useful for early planning — shortlisting target IITs, understanding what score range you need to aim for — rather than a guaranteed figure for 2026.

How Sensitive Rank Is to Marks, Band by Band

Rank BandWhat This Band Typically Represents
Top 100Extremely narrow marks band separates each rank; even 1-2 marks can shift rank by several positions.
Rank 100 – 1,000Still a tight band; this range corresponds to the CSE/EE cutoff zone at the oldest IITs.
Rank 1,000 – 5,000Covers CSE at most IITs outside the top 3, and core branches at the oldest IITs.
Rank 5,000 – 15,000Covers most core engineering branches across all IITs and CSE at several newer IITs.
Rank 15,000 – 30,000+Covers remaining branches at newer IITs; closing ranks here can vary more year to year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced rank prediction using 2025 data

1
Why use JEE Advanced 2025 data to predict a rank in 2026?
JEE Advanced rank-to-marks relationships shift slightly every year based on paper difficulty and the number of candidates, but the underlying pattern (how marks map to percentile, and percentile to rank) stays broadly similar. 2025 data is the most recent full-cycle reference available for building this kind of estimate.
2
Is a rank predicted from 2025 data accurate for 2026 exams?
It's a reasonable approximation, not an exact figure. If the 2026 paper is tougher or easier than 2025's, or if the number of qualified candidates differs, your actual rank could shift up or down from the 2025-based estimate. Use it as a planning range, not a fixed number.
3
What factors affect how marks convert to rank in JEE Advanced?
Total candidates who qualify JEE Main and appear for JEE Advanced, overall paper difficulty, the specific subject-wise difficulty balance (Physics/Chemistry/Maths), and negative marking impact all affect how a given score converts to rank in a particular year.
4
Does this account for category-wise rank lists (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS)?
Yes, JEE Advanced publishes a Common Rank List (CRL) as well as category-wise rank lists. A candidate's category rank is often considerably better (lower) than their CRL rank, which matters when applying this data to JoSAA counselling eligibility.
5
Where can I check my actual admission chances once I have a rank estimate?
Use our JEE Advanced College Predictor, which takes your rank (actual or estimated) and category and matches it against real JoSAA 2026 round-wise closing rank data to show your probable IIT shortlist.
6
Why doesn't JEE Advanced publish a direct marks-to-percentile table like JEE Main?
JEE Advanced ranks candidates directly on a Common Rank List (CRL) based on raw aggregate marks (with normalization across the two papers), rather than converting scores to a percentile the way JEE Main does across multiple sessions. Since there is only one JEE Advanced sitting per year (no multiple sessions to normalize across), a percentile conversion step isn't necessary — your rank is determined by where your marks fall relative to all other candidates' marks in that single exam.
7
How much does the qualifying cutoff affect the marks-to-rank relationship?
Significantly. Only candidates who clear the category-wise qualifying cutoff in each subject AND the aggregate cutoff are included in the ranked list at all. A candidate who scores well in two subjects but falls short of the minimum in the third may not get a CRL rank, regardless of their total marks — so the marks-to-rank relationship only applies to candidates who have cleared every qualifying threshold.
8
Is the marks-to-rank curve linear across the full rank range?
No. The relationship is typically steepest (most rank-sensitive) in the middle of the distribution, where large numbers of candidates cluster around similar marks — a difference of just a few marks can shift your rank by hundreds or even low thousands in this zone. At the very top (top 100-500 ranks) and toward the lower end of the qualified range, the curve tends to be comparatively flatter, since fewer candidates are bunched at those extremes of the marks distribution.
