CSAB 2026 PwD Cutoff – Special Round Ranks

5% horizontal PwD reservation in CSAB Special Rounds — cutoff trends and benchmark disability certificate rules.

How PwD Reservation Works in CSAB 2026

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) fills seats left vacant in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs after JoSAA's main rounds, through two Special Rounds — SR1 and SR2. PwD (Persons with Disabilities) reservation applies as a horizontal reservation of 5%, cutting across every vertical category. In practical terms, this means 5% of General seats are General-PwD, 5% of OBC-NCL seats are OBC-NCL-PwD, and so on for EWS, SC, and ST — each category's PwD candidates compete only against other PwD candidates within that same category.

Because PwD is horizontal rather than vertical, a PwD candidate is first evaluated against their own category rank (say, General or OBC-NCL) and, within that pool, is prioritized for the PwD-reserved subset of seats. If no PwD candidate is available for a specific PwD seat, it can be de-reserved and offered to a non-PwD candidate of the same category in a later stage, following standard de-reservation norms.

Why PwD Seats Frequently Remain Vacant Until CSAB

PwD seats are numerically small at any single institute-branch combination — often just 1 or 2 seats — which makes exact matching difficult in JoSAA's rounds. Many PwD seats therefore remain unfilled after JoSAA and enter the CSAB pool. Because CSAB Special Rounds specifically target these leftover seats, PwD candidates often find CSAB to be a more productive counselling window than JoSAA itself, especially for niche branch-institute combinations.

NIT Agartala – Mechanical~55,000–70,000~90,000–1,40,000
NIT Manipur – Civil~65,000–85,000~1,10,000–1,60,000
NIT Uttarakhand – CSE~45,000–60,000~75,000–1,20,000

Benchmark Disability Certificate Requirements

To be eligible for PwD reservation in CSAB 2026, a candidate must have a benchmark disability of 40% or more as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. Recognized categories include locomotor disability, visual impairment (blindness and low vision), hearing impairment (deaf and hard of hearing), and other specified disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities, and multiple disabilities, subject to the certifying medical authority's assessment.

The disability certificate must be issued by a government hospital or a duly constituted medical board, in the format prescribed under the RPwD Act. If your certificate carries a review date (common for progressive or fluctuating conditions), ensure it remains valid through the counselling and admission period — an expired review-based certificate can jeopardize your PwD seat allotment even after provisional confirmation.

Strategy for PwD Candidates in CSAB Special Rounds

Because PwD seat availability is small and scattered, cast a wide net across NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs rather than fixating on 2-3 preferred institutes. Track vacancy position lists published before each CSAB round closely, since PwD seat vacancies (especially at newer NITs and GFTIs) may not follow predictable patterns from year to year.

Beyond the admission process itself, evaluate campus accessibility — ramps, accessible hostels, assistive technology in labs and libraries — for your specific disability before finalizing your choices, since this significantly affects your overall college experience. CSAB 2026 PwD Cutoff – FAQs

Common questions about PwD category cutoffs in CSAB 2026 Special Rounds

1
What is PwD reservation in CSAB 2026?
PwD (Persons with Disabilities) reservation is a horizontal reservation of 5%, applied across every vertical category (General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) in CSAB Special Rounds, exactly as in JoSAA. This means 5% of seats within each category's own allocation are sub-reserved for PwD candidates who meet the benchmark disability criteria.
2
How are PwD cutoffs different from regular category cutoffs in CSAB?
PwD cutoffs are typically much higher numerically (i.e., relaxed) than the corresponding category's regular cutoff, because PwD seats are a small 5% slice of an already limited pool, and only PwD-certified candidates within that category compete for them. For instance, a General category CSAB closing rank of 50,000 for a branch might see the General-PwD closing rank open up to 80,000-1,20,000+, depending on how many PwD candidates applied for that specific combination.
3
What disability percentage is required for PwD reservation in CSAB?
Candidates must have a benchmark disability of 40% or more, as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. This includes locomotor disability, visual impairment (blindness and low vision), hearing impairment, and other specified disabilities recognized under the Act. A valid disability certificate from a government-authorized medical board is mandatory.
4
Do PwD seats carry over as vacancies into CSAB from JoSAA?
Yes. Since PwD is a horizontal reservation with a comparatively small applicant base, many PwD seats across categories remain unfilled after JoSAA's rounds conclude, particularly at newer NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. These vacant PwD seats flow into CSAB's Special Round 1 and 2, often presenting relaxed cutoffs relative to JoSAA's final closing ranks.
5
Can a PwD candidate be considered for both PwD and regular seats in CSAB?
Yes. PwD candidates remain eligible for regular (non-PwD) seats within their category based on their rank, in addition to being considered for PwD-specific seats. CSAB's allotment logic tries to allot the PwD seat first if it results in a better outcome; candidates should fill choices for both to maximize their options.
6
How is disability verified during CSAB document verification?
PwD candidates typically need to appear for verification of their disability certificate, either at a designated reporting center or via the medical board process specified by CSAB for that year. The certificate should ideally be from a government hospital or medical board, and should not be expired if it carries a review/expiry date. Provisional PwD seat allotment can be cancelled if the certificate does not meet the required benchmark disability criteria.
7
Are PwD cutoffs available for every branch and institute in CSAB?
Not necessarily. Since PwD reservation is only 5% and applied per category, many branch-institute combinations may have zero or just 1-2 PwD seats, meaning cutoff data can be sparse, volatile, or entirely unavailable in a given round if no PwD candidate was allotted. Always check the specific seat matrix for the round you are participating in rather than relying purely on historical averages.
8
What should PwD candidates prioritize while filling CSAB choices?
PwD candidates should fill a wide spread of institute-branch combinations, since PwD seat availability is unpredictable and concentrated unevenly across NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. Also verify well in advance whether your target institute has accessible campus infrastructure (hostels, classrooms, labs) relevant to your specific disability, since this can materially affect your day-to-day experience beyond just admission.
