About BITSAT Scoring & Cutoff

BITSAT (BITS Admission Test) has 130 questions: Physics (40), Chemistry (40), English & Logical Reasoning (25), Mathematics (25). Each correct answer: +3 marks. Each wrong answer: –1 mark. Maximum score: 390.

The cutoff score listed is the final closing score — the minimum BITSAT score at which the last seat in that programme at that campus was filled. If more candidates scored at exactly the cutoff, the tie-breaking rule (total correct answers → PCM section marks) determines who gets the seat.

BITS Pilani does not consider JEE Main or JEE Advanced scores. Admission is entirely based on BITSAT score. All three campuses (Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa, Hyderabad) award the same BITS Pilani degree.

What is the BITSAT cutoff for BITS Pilani CSE?
Based on official BITS data: BITS Pilani CSE cutoff was 327 in 2024-25, 331 in 2023-24, and 320 in 2022-23 (out of 390). The cutoff for 2026 is expected to be in the 325–340 range depending on exam difficulty. CSE at Pilani is the most competitive programme across all BITS campuses.

What BITSAT score is needed for BITS Goa CSE?
BITS Goa (K.K. Birla Goa Campus) CSE cutoff was 301 in 2024-25, 295 in 2023-24, and 286 in 2022-23 (out of 390). For 2026, expect cutoff in the 295–310 range. Goa campus has the same BITS Pilani degree, same curriculum, and excellent placements.

BITS Hyderabad CSE cutoff was 298 in 2024-25, 284 in 2023-24, and 279 in 2022-23 (out of 390). Hyderabad typically has the lowest cutoffs among the three campuses. For 2026, expect 290–308. A score of 298+ gives a good chance at BITS Hyderabad CSE.

Why did BITSAT cutoffs change in 2022-23?
From 2022-23, BITS changed the BITSAT maximum marks from 450 to 390. The exam format was restructured — 130 questions × 3 marks = 390 maximum, with -1 for wrong answers. All scores from 2022-23 onwards are out of 390. Older years (pre-2022) had cutoffs out of 450 and are not directly comparable.

What is the tie-breaking rule in BITSAT?
If two candidates have the same BITSAT score, BITS uses: (1) Total correct answers, (2) PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) marks. If still tied, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in PCM gets priority. This tie-breaking rule is applied only when seats are available at that exact cutoff score.

Does BITS Pilani consider JEE Main or JEE Advanced scores?
No — BITS Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad admit students exclusively through BITSAT score. JEE Main or JEE Advanced scores are not considered. The only exception is that candidates who scored 12/12 in Class 12 Board exams (all subjects) were previously given direct admission, but this policy has changed — check the latest BITS admission notification.
