What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?

The seat acceptance deadline is strict. If you do not pay the fee and confirm your response within the specified window (usually 48–72 hours after allotment), your seat is automatically cancelled. There is no grace period and no way to reinstate a cancelled seat.

Missing the deadline means:

  • Your allotted seat is cancelled and given to the next candidate in the waitlist.
  • You are not considered in subsequent JoSAA rounds.
  • You will need to apply for CSAB 2026 separately after JoSAA ends.

Advice: Set an alarm, complete the payment on Day 1 of the allotment window. Technical issues (server load, payment failures) are common on result day. Retry immediately if a payment fails and check your bank statement.

1
Is the JoSAA seat acceptance fee the same every round?
Yes — the seat acceptance fee amount does not change across rounds. General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates pay Rs.45,000 and SC/ST/PwD candidates pay Rs.20,000, regardless of which round they receive the allotment. The fee is paid once per JoSAA cycle, not every round.
2
Is the seat acceptance fee refunded if I withdraw from JoSAA?
The seat acceptance fee is partially refundable. If you withdraw before the final round's deadline, a portion is refunded after deducting a processing fee. If you do not report to the allotted institute after Round 5, the fee is typically forfeited. Exact refund amounts are specified in the JoSAA 2026 Information Brochure.
3
Can I pay the JoSAA seat acceptance fee in cash?
No — cash payments are not accepted. JoSAA only accepts online payments through the josaa.nic.in portal using UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), internet banking, or debit/credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay). Make sure your internet banking or UPI is set up before the allotment date.
4
What happens if I miss the seat acceptance fee deadline?
If you do not pay the seat acceptance fee within the specified deadline (usually 2–3 days after the allotment result), your seat is automatically cancelled. You will not be considered for the next round either. Act immediately after seeing the allotment — do not wait until the last day, as technical issues can delay payments.
5
Do I pay the full institute fee at the time of JoSAA acceptance?
No — the seat acceptance fee (Rs.45,000 or Rs.20,000) is a token amount, not the full institute fee. The remaining institute fee (tuition, hostel, etc.) is paid at the time of physical reporting to the institute after the final allotment. The acceptance fee is adjusted against the total institute fee during admission.
