Reporting Deadline

JoSAA 2026 Physical Reporting Deadline

The deadline is institute-specific. Here is how to find yours and what the consequences of missing it are.

Unlike the online rounds of JoSAA counselling — where every candidate follows an identical, centrally-published schedule for choice filling, allotment results, and response windows — physical reporting is the one stage of the process where the exact deadline varies by institute rather than being uniform across the entire JoSAA system. This distinction catches some candidates off guard, since it's natural to assume the entire counselling process runs on one master calendar. In reality, JoSAA sets an overall reporting period during which all institutes must complete verification, but each individual institute (each IIT, NIT, IIIT, or GFTI) then publishes its own specific reporting window and instructions within that broader period, tailored to its own administrative capacity and reporting-centre logistics.

This institute-specific structure exists for practical reasons — a single national reporting date for tens of thousands of candidates across over a hundred institutes simultaneously would create serious logistical strain at reporting centres and institute admission offices. By staggering exact deadlines within a shared overall window, institutes can process document verification more smoothly. The practical implication for you as a candidate is straightforward: never assume your reporting deadline matches what you've read about a friend's institute, a forum post, or even the general JoSAA schedule — always confirm the exact date and instructions specific to your allotted institute directly.

  3. 3Visit your allotted institute's official website → Admissions 2026 section → JoSAA 2026 Reporting.

Why This Deadline Deserves Extra Attention

Among all the deadlines throughout JoSAA counselling, the physical reporting deadline arguably carries the highest stakes, because unlike an online response window (where missing one round's deadline often still leaves you in the system for the next round, depending on your freeze/float choice), missing the final physical reporting deadline typically ends your JoSAA journey for that seat entirely — with the seat acceptance fee already paid generally forfeited and the seat itself released back into the vacant pool for CSAB. Because this deadline falls after weeks of online rounds have already concluded, some candidates mentally relax at this stage, assuming the hard part (competing for and securing a seat) is behind them. In reality, the reporting stage is where a secured seat is finally converted into an actual confirmed admission, and treating it with anything less than full seriousness — including planning travel, arranging documents, and confirming the exact deadline well in advance — is a genuine risk to what you've already worked to secure.

Given that reporting windows are often compressed into just a week or so after the final allotment, and given that travel to an institute (which may be in a different state entirely from where you live) takes real time, the smartest approach is to start planning logistics — provisional travel bookings, document collection, accommodation near the institute if needed — as soon as your final allotment round result is out, rather than waiting until the exact reporting deadline is confirmed on the institute's website.

1
What is the last date for physical reporting in JoSAA 2026?
JoSAA 2026 physical reporting did not have a single last date for all institutes. Each institute set its own reporting window within the master JoSAA schedule. The reporting period began after Round 5 final allotment (July 16, 2026), with most institutes giving 7–10 days — reporting has since concluded for the JoSAA 2026 cycle. If you missed your institute's window, check with the institute directly and review CSAB 2026 (registration closed August 3, 2026; SR1 result declared August 6, SR2 result declared around August 12) as your next step.
2
What happens if I miss the physical reporting deadline?
If you miss the physical reporting deadline, your seat is cancelled. The seat acceptance fee you paid (₹35,000 for General/OBC/EWS, ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD) is NOT refunded. The vacated seat gets transferred to the CSAB pool for the special rounds. There is no automatic second chance within JoSAA — CSAB 2026 registration closed on August 3, 2026; the SR1 result was declared August 6, and the SR2 result was declared August 12, 2026 — CSAB 2026 counselling is now complete.
3
Can I get an extension if I miss the reporting deadline due to illness?
Some institutes may grant a short extension for genuine medical emergencies, but this is entirely at the institute's discretion and is not guaranteed by JoSAA rules. If you face a medical emergency, contact the institute's admissions office immediately with supporting documents (hospital admission, medical certificate). Do not wait — contact the institute even before the deadline if you know you'll miss it.
4
Does the reporting deadline apply after every JoSAA round or only the final round?
Physical reporting to the institute happens only after the FINAL JoSAA allotment (Round 5, or whichever round you freeze in). Between rounds, you only do online actions (pay fees, upload documents, choose Freeze/Float/Slide). Physical travel to the institute for document verification and registration happens only once — at the end of the counselling process.
5
How do I find my specific institute's reporting deadline?
Your institute's specific reporting deadline is published on: (1) The josaa.nic.in portal under your allotment details, (2) Your provisional allotment letter, and (3) Your allotted institute's official website (usually the 'Admissions 2026' section). Always verify from the institute's website directly — different IITs and NITs within the same JoSAA schedule can have slightly different reporting windows.
