JoSAA 2026 – What Happens If You Don't Report to the Institute?
Consequences of missing JoSAA reporting, what happens to your fee, your seat, and whether you can still do CSAB.
The Four Consequences of Not Reporting to JoSAA
Physical reporting to your JoSAA-allotted institute is the final mandatory step in completing your JEE admission. If you miss this deadline, the following four things happen:
Your allotted seat is cancelled
The seat you were allocated is returned to the pool. It may be re-allotted in subsequent JoSAA rounds (if before Round 5 reporting) or added to the CSAB 2026 pool.
Your seat acceptance fee is NOT refunded
The seat acceptance fee (Rs. 35,000 General or Rs. 15,000 SC/ST/PwD in JoSAA) is forfeited. This is a non-negotiable penalty for missing the reporting deadline. There are no exceptions for general non-reporting.
You cannot re-enter JoSAA for later rounds
Once your seat is cancelled due to non-reporting, you are removed from the JoSAA process. You cannot participate in Round 4 or Round 5 if you missed Round 3 reporting, for example.
You CAN still participate in CSAB 2026
Critically, CSAB eligibility is not affected by not reporting to JoSAA — as long as you never completed physical enrollment at the institute. CSAB checks whether you physically reported; non-reporting means you are still eligible for CSAB.

What "Physical Reporting" Actually Means
Physical reporting is not the same as online seat acceptance. It is the in-person step where you travel to the allotted institute and complete the following:
- Present all original documents (Class 10, 12 certificates, JEE scorecard, category certificate, ID proof) to the institute admissions office
- Undergo document verification by institute staff
- Pay the remaining institute fees (tuition fee, hostel deposit, etc.) beyond the seat acceptance fee already paid to JoSAA
- Receive a confirmation slip or enrollment letter from the institute
Only after completing all these in person at the institute is your admission considered finalized. Paying fees online to JoSAA is not physical reporting — it is merely seat acceptance.
Medical Emergency Exception
If you face a genuine medical emergency that prevents you from reporting, contact the allotted institute's admissions office immediately with documentation. Some institutes may grant a short extension at their discretion. However, this is institute-specific — there is no central JoSAA policy for medical exceptions. Do not wait and assume JoSAA will accommodate you.
