JoSAA 2026 Physical Reporting at Institutes – Complete Guide

Physical reporting: visit your allotted IIT/NIT/IIIT before classes begin. Bring original documents and remaining fees. Final step in JoSAA admission.

JoSAA 2026 Physical Reporting — What to Expect

Physical reporting was the final milestone in the JoSAA 2026 journey — the actual visit to the allotted IIT/NIT/IIIT to formally enrol. This took place in late July/August 2026 after JoSAA Round 5 concluded (final result July 16, 2026). The process at the institute involved: document verification by faculty/staff, payment of remaining semester fees, hostel allotment, and biometric registration.

What to carry: Original documents (see checklist below), 4–6 sets of photocopies, demand drafts or digital payment capability, recent passport photos (6–8), and your JoSAA allotment letter printed from the portal. Plan to stay for 1–2 days as the reporting process can take time. Many institutes now streamline this with digital document submission, but original verification is still done in person.

Key Points for Smooth Physical Reporting

Tips for smooth physical reporting: (1) Check your institute's official website for their specific reporting date and time. (2) Reach the institute city one day before to avoid last-minute travel issues. (3) Keep document originals in a safe folder/file — do not lose them. (4) Pay remaining fees online if the institute offers that option — faster. (5) Register for hostel on the same day as physical reporting. (6) Take your parents/guardian along for support — the process can be overwhelming.

JoSAA 2026 Physical Reporting – FAQs

Common questions about physical reporting at JoSAA-allotted institutes

1
What is physical reporting in JoSAA 2026?
Physical reporting is the final step in JoSAA admission where you personally visit your allotted institute to complete document verification, pay the remaining admission fees, and formally enrol. For JoSAA 2026, this happened after the process concluded (Round 5 final result was declared July 16, 2026) and before the academic session began. You must bring original documents plus photocopies for verification at the institute's admission office.
2
When does physical reporting happen in JoSAA 2026?
For JoSAA 2026, physical reporting took place in late July/August, after the Round 5 allotment result (July 16, 2026) and online reporting were complete. Exact dates were announced by individual institutes. Most IITs, NITs, and IIITs held physical reporting before orientation, with classes for the 2026-27 academic session starting in late July/August 2026. Missing physical reporting meant forfeiting the seat.
3
What documents do I need for physical reporting at the institute?
For physical reporting at your JoSAA-allotted institute: Originals + photocopies of: (1) Class 10 marksheet and certificate. (2) Class 12 marksheet and certificate. (3) JEE scorecard and admit card. (4) Allotment letter from JoSAA (print from portal). (5) Fee payment receipts. (6) Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS). (7) PwD certificate if applicable. No. Physical reporting at JoSAA institutes is typically done in person — you must visit the institute yourself. Some institutes may allow a guardian for support but the candidate must be physically present for document verification and biometric/photo registration. If you have a medical emergency preventing you from attending, contact the institute's admission office immediately for special dispensation. Do not miss physical reporting without informing the institute.
5
What fees are paid at the time of physical reporting?
At physical reporting, you pay the remaining admission fees beyond the ₹35,000 seat acceptance fee already paid online. For IITs, first-semester fee is approximately ₹1.25 lakh (for General) minus the ₹35,000 already paid. For NITs, first-semester fee is approximately ₹70,000–1.5 lakh depending on the NIT. SC/ST students may have fee waivers for tuition. Hostel deposit (₹5,000–15,000) and mess advance are also collected. Carry a demand draft or be prepared for online payment at the institute.
