What to Do During the Wait Between Rounds

Between JoSAA rounds, there is typically a 2–4 day gap. Use this time productively:

  • Research your allotted institute: Check faculty, labs, campus life, placement statistics, and hostel facilities.
  • Review your choice list: Update it for the next round — add new choices or refine ordering.
  • Prepare documents: Start collecting originals and making photocopies so you are ready for reporting.
  • Arrange finances: Institute fees can be Rs.1–3 lakhs. Ensure bank accounts are ready and NEFT/RTGS limits are set appropriately.
  • Book travel in advance: Once Round 5 allotment is out, travel to the institute can be within 3–5 days. Book flexible tickets if possible.
1
When does JoSAA 2026 start and end?
JoSAA 2026 started June 2, 2026 and runs through Round 5 on July 16, 2026, followed by physical reporting. Choice filling closed June 11. Round 1 allotment was released June 13. Total counselling duration is approximately 6–7 weeks.
2
Can I go on a vacation during JoSAA counselling?
Technically yes, but it is strongly not recommended. Each round's response window is typically only 2–3 days. Missing a single deadline can cancel your allotment. If you must travel, ensure you have reliable internet access and can complete online payments on time. Keep the entire June–July period free for JoSAA.
3
How long is each JoSAA round?
Each JoSAA round cycle (from allotment result to response deadline to next allotment) is approximately 4–7 days. Round 1 takes the longest (due to choice filling period before it). Later rounds (3–6) are typically faster, with allotment results and response windows spanning 3–5 days each.
4
What happens between Round 5 of JoSAA and CSAB registration?
After JoSAA Round 5 allotment is published, allotted candidates go through a physical reporting window (3–5 days). Approximately 2–3 days after the JoSAA reporting deadline, CSAB 2026 registration opens for unallotted candidates. There is minimal gap between JoSAA ending and CSAB beginning.
5
When does the academic year actually start after all this counselling?
Most IITs, NITs, and IIITs begin the academic year (orientation, classes) in late July or August after the JoSAA/CSAB process concludes. Typically: IITs start late July/early August, NITs start late July/August, with orientation periods in the first week. Classes typically begin 1–2 weeks after reporting.
