JoSAA 2026 Seat Cancellation and Refund Policy

JoSAA 2026 refund policy is tiered based on the stage at which you cancel. The general principle: the earlier you cancel, the more (if any) refund you receive. Based on JoSAA 2025 refund structure: If a candidate does not get a seat or withdraws before the specified date after Round 5 (JoSAA 2026's final round, concluded July 16, 2026), a processing-fee deduction applies and remaining amount is refunded. After Round 5, the seat acceptance fee is generally forfeited.

Important: JoSAA 2026 refund rules may differ slightly from 2025. Always check the official JoSAA 2026 Information Brochure (available on josaa.nic.in) for the exact refund schedule and conditions. The brochure specifies exact dates and deduction amounts for each withdrawal stage.

Valid reasons to cancel JoSAA: (1) You secured a better seat at a non-JoSAA institution (BITS Pilani, IISc, foreign university). (2) You got DTU/NSUT CSE via JAC Delhi which you prefer over your JoSAA allotment. (3) You decided not to pursue engineering this year. (4) Medical or personal reasons preventing you from joining.

Never cancel JoSAA: (1) Thinking you'll do better in CSAB — participate in both. (2) Before confirming an alternative seat — don't be left with nothing. (3) Based on rumours about better future rounds — use Float instead. (4) To re-apply fresh — once cancelled, you can't re-enter JoSAA 2026.
