JEE Main SC Rank 2026 – Colleges & Cutoffs

Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates benefit from 15% reservation in all centrally funded technical institutions under the JoSAA process. This includes 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and over 25 GFTIs.

How SC Rank is Calculated: JEE Main 2026 generates a separate SC category rank for all candidates who declared SC status during registration. Your SC rank is your position among all SC candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2026. SC ranks are roughly 4–6 times lower numerically than general AIR for the same score (e.g., a candidate with general AIR 20000 might have SC rank ~4000).

SC Cutoffs at Top NITs: SC closing ranks at premier NITs for CSE are significantly more accessible than general cutoffs. For JoSAA 2025, NIT Trichy CSE (other state, SC) closed around SC rank 800–1200. NIT Warangal CSE (other state, SC) around 600–900.

Fee Waiver: Central government waives tuition fees for SC students at NITs and IITs. This makes NIT education effectively free (tuition) for SC candidates, with only hostel/mess charges applicable.

Based on JoSAA 2024–25 data, here is an approximate mapping for SC category ranks in 2026 (other state quota unless noted):

• SC rank 1–300: NIT Trichy/Warangal/Surathkal CSE, IIIT Hyderabad programs
• SC rank 300–800: NIT Trichy ECE, NIT Calicut CSE, NIT Rourkela CSE, IIIT Allahabad IT
• SC rank 800–2000: NIT Jaipur/Bhopal/Hamirpur CSE, NIT Calicut ECE, top IIITs CSE
• SC rank 2000–5000: Mid-tier NITs CSE/ECE, NIT Silchar CSE, government IIITs
• SC rank 5000–12000: Newer NITs CSE, NIT Agartala/Manipur, GFTIs CSE branches
• SC rank 12000+: GFTIs various branches, CSAB special round seats

Scholarship Support: SC students should also apply for the National Fellowship for SC Students (UGC) and Post Matric Scholarship scheme, which provides monthly stipends during BE/BTech. These are administered by the Ministry of Social Justice.

Counselling Tip:SC candidates often see less competition within the SC pool for premium branches. Don't undersell yourself — fill aspirational choices like NIT Trichy CSE even if your SC rank seems borderline, as seats go unfilled in early rounds sometimes.
