In JoSAA Counselling:

Cutoff lists for EWS quota seats are published strictly in EWS Category Rank. If your rank card shows EWS Rank 850, compare it against the closing EWS rank in JoSAA archives.

In CSAB Special Rounds:

Cutoffs are published exclusively in Common Rank List (CRL). Even when allocated an EWS reserved seat in CSAB, your CRL rank is evaluated against the CRL cutoff.

Does JoSAA use EWS Category Rank or CRL for college allotment?

In JoSAA counselling, seat allotment for reserved EWS seats is done strictly using your EWS Category Rank. However, in CSAB Special Rounds, all candidates are allocated seats based on their Common Rank List (CRL) rank, while your category determines eligibility for vacant reserved seats.

What are the income and asset criteria for JEE Main EWS reservation?

To claim the 10% EWS quota: (1) You must belong to the General category (not SC/ST/OBC), (2) Gross annual family income must be below ₹8 lakh from all sources for the relevant financial year, (3) Family must not own 5 acres or more of agricultural land, (4) Family must not own a residential flat of 1,000 sq ft or more, and (5) Must not own a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in notified municipalities.

What NIT college and branch can I get with an EWS Rank under 1,000?

With an EWS Category Rank under 1,000, you are eligible for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and Electronics & Communication (ECE) at premier NITs like NIT Calicut, NIT Rourkela, MNNIT Allahabad, MNIT Jaipur, and VNIT Nagpur, as well as top IIITs like IIIT Gwalior and IIIT Jabalpur.

When must the EWS certificate be issued for JoSAA 2026?

The EWS certificate must be issued by a competent revenue authority (Tehsildar, SDM, or District Magistrate) on or after April 1 of the admission year (i.e., on or after April 1, 2026) to be valid for JoSAA/CSAB 2026 verification. Older certificates from earlier financial years are rejected.
