CSAB 2026

CSAB 2026 Round 2 (SR2) – Final Round Process, Now Complete

Round 2 (SR2) Timeline · NEUT Allocation · Institute Reporting · Options for Unallotted Candidates

CSAB 2026 Round 2 Timeline

CSAB Round 2 (SR2) was the final allotment round, and it has now concluded — the result was declared August 12, 2026. NEUT eligibility was factored into the same rounds rather than run as a separate later round. The confirmed schedule:

EventDate (2026)
Special Round 2 (SR2) ResultAug 12, 2026 (Declared)
Special Round 2 (SR2) ReportingAug 12–17, 2026
Physical Institute ReportingAug 13–18, 2026

CSAB 2026 counselling is now complete through SR2. Always verify your own reporting deadline on csab.nic.in.

What Round 2 Processes

CSAB Round 2 handles three categories of seat movements simultaneously:

  • Upgrades for Float candidates from Round 1

Candidates who chose Float after Round 1 are considered for upgrade to higher-ranked choices in their CSAB list, if seats become available.

  • New allotments for unallotted Round 1 candidates

Candidates who did not receive any seat in Round 1 are considered again with the full pool of available seats in Round 2.

  • Vacancies released from Round 1

Seats released by: Round 1 candidates who did not pay the acceptance fee within the deadline, formal withdrawals after Round 1, and NEUT special round seats opening up.

CSAB NEUT (North East and Union Territory) Allocation

The NEUT (North East and Union Territory) quota is not run as a separate later round — it is folded into the same SR1/SR2 registration, choice-locking, and allotment timeline, with eligibility verified via domicile certificate. It applies exclusively to candidates from:

North East States

  • Assam
  • Meghalaya
  • Manipur
  • Mizoram
  • Nagaland
  • Arunachal Pradesh
  • Tripura
  • Sikkim

Union Territories

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands
  • Chandigarh
  • Dadra & Nagar Haveli
  • Daman & Diu
  • Lakshadweep
  • Puducherry
  • Ladakh (UT)
  • Jammu & Kashmir (UT)

NEUT-eligible candidates get preferential allocation at NITs in North East states. Eligibility was verified during CSAB registration and applied automatically within SR1/SR2 — there was no separate NEUT login or later round.

What to Do if You Remain Unallotted After CSAB Round 2 (SR2)

CSAB 2026 counselling is now complete. If you remain without a seat after SR2 (and were not NEUT-eligible), these are your remaining options:

Option A: State Counselling Portals

  • KCET (Karnataka) — kcet.karnataka.gov.in
  • WBJEE (West Bengal) — wbjeeb.nic.in
  • MHT-CET (Maharashtra) — mahacet.org
  • UPSEE/AKTU (Uttar Pradesh) — aktu.ac.in
  • Check if registrations are still open — deadlines vary by state

Option B: Private Universities with Extended Counselling

  • VIT Vellore / Chennai / Bhopal / AP — vit.ac.in
  • Manipal Institute of Technology — manipal.edu
  • SRM Institute of Science and Technology — srmist.edu.in
  • BITS Pilani (BITSAT) — bitsadmission.com
  • Many private colleges conduct spot rounds through August

Option C: Other Central Government Institutions

  • IIST Thiruvananthapuram — aerospace engineering (separate counselling)
  • NISER Bhubaneswar — integrated science programmes
  • IISERs (Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Bhopal, etc.) — pure sciences
  • These have separate exam and counselling processes

Option D: Prepare for JEE 2027 (Drop Year)

  • A focused drop year can significantly improve your JEE rank
  • You attempt JEE Main up to 2 more times in 2027 (January and April sessions)
  • JEE Advanced 2027 is also available if you haven't used your 2 attempts
  • Consider carefully: requires strong self-discipline and a clear study plan

Institute Reporting After CSAB Round 2

Candidates who accepted a seat in CSAB SR2 (including NEUT-eligible candidates) must physically report to their allotted institute during the reporting window (Aug 13–18, 2026, confirmed).

The reporting process is the same as JoSAA physical reporting:

  • Carry all original documents plus 2–3 sets of self-attested photocopies
  • Documents required: Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, JEE Main scorecard, category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD if applicable), residence certificate, medical fitness certificate
  • Pay any remaining institute-specific fees (hostel, registration) on arrival
  • Hostel allotment is typically done at the institute level after reporting
  • Missing the reporting deadline results in automatic cancellation of allotment and fee forfeiture

Do not miss the reporting deadline under any circumstances. No extensions are typically granted. Arrive before the last date to allow time for any document-related corrections.

Open guide
1
How many total rounds does CSAB 2026 have?
CSAB 2026 had 2 special rounds (SR1 and SR2) plus the NEUT (North East and Union Territory) allocation folded into that same timeline — the equivalent of 2 rounds total. This is far fewer than JoSAA's 5 rounds, which is why upgrade opportunities in CSAB were significantly more limited. Both rounds are now complete: SR1 was declared Aug 6, 2026 and SR2 (the final round) was declared Aug 12, 2026.
2
If I didn't get a seat in CSAB Round 2 (SR2), is there any more chance through CSAB?
No — SR2 was the final round of CSAB 2026, and NEUT eligibility was already factored into that same round rather than run as a separate later round. If you remained unallotted after SR2, CSAB counselling is closed for you for this cycle. Your remaining options are state counselling portals and private university admissions.
3
Could candidates who already had a CSAB Round 1 seat Float to Round 2?
Yes. The Float/Freeze mechanism worked identically to JoSAA. Candidates who chose Float after receiving their Round 1 (SR1) seat were considered in Round 2 (SR2) for an upgrade to a higher-ranked choice in their CSAB choice list. Since only 2 rounds existed, that Float decision was final once SR2 results were declared on Aug 12, 2026.
4
What is the fee refund policy if I withdraw after CSAB Round 2 allotment?
If you withdraw before the last withdrawal deadline specified on csab.nic.in, you receive a partial refund of the seat acceptance fee minus processing charges. After the withdrawal deadline passes, the fee is fully forfeited. Always check the exact deadline on the official CSAB portal.
5
After CSAB, if I still don't have a seat, can I appeal to any authority?
No formal appeals process exists for JoSAA or CSAB seat allotment outcomes. The entire counselling process is merit-based and algorithmic. If you remain unallotted after CSAB, your options are state counselling portals (KCET, WBJEE, MHT-CET, etc.) and private university admissions.
