What Seats Are Available in CSAB Round 1?
CSAB Round 1 allots seats that were vacant after JoSAA Round 5. These come from:
- Candidates who did not report to institutes after JoSAA final round (forfeiting their seat)
- Candidates who formally withdrew before CSAB registration opened
- Seats that remained unfilled across all 5 JoSAA rounds (typically at less competitive institutes or branches)
- NEUT special seats reserved for North East and Union Territory candidates
CSAB seat availability is generally less than JoSAA — expect fewer options but still meaningful opportunities, especially at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
Step-by-Step: What to Do After CSAB Round 1 Allotment
- 1
Check your allotment result
Visit csab.nic.in, login with your JEE Main application number and date of birth, and navigate to Seat Allotment to see your allotted institute, programme, quota, and category.
- 2
Review the allotment details carefully
Verify the institute name, branch, quota (OS/HS), and category. Confirm these match your expectations. Cross-check the closing rank against your rank to understand how competitive your allotment is.
- 3
Accept seat and pay fee (if satisfied)
Pay ₹30,000 (General/OBC-NCL/EWS) or ₹15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) online on csab.nic.in within the reporting window. This payment is mandatory to hold your seat.
- 4
Select Float or Freeze
After paying the fee, choose Float (keep seat, try to upgrade in Round 2) or Freeze (accept current seat as final, exit from further CSAB rounds). Think carefully — CSAB has very few rounds.
- 5
Upload required documents
Upload scanned copies of Class 10, Class 12 marksheets, category certificate (if applicable), JEE Main scorecard, and other documents as specified on the CSAB portal within the deadline.
- 6
If not allotted: wait for Round 2 automatically
If you did not receive a seat in Round 1, you remain in the pool for Round 2. No additional action is required — the system will consider your registered choice list again in Round 2.
CSAB Float / Freeze: Same as JoSAA?
Yes — the Float/Freeze mechanism in CSAB works on the same principle as JoSAA:
Float
You keep your current seat as a backup. In Round 2, CSAB tries to upgrade you to a higher-ranked choice in your list. If an upgrade is found, your current seat is released. If not, you keep the current seat.
Freeze
You accept your current seat as final and exit all further CSAB rounds. No upgrade attempts will be made. Choose Freeze when you are satisfied with your allotment.
Important: CSAB has only 2–3 rounds total (vs JoSAA's 5 rounds). Upgrade chances are more limited. If your Round 1 seat is genuinely good, Freeze is often the safer choice.
Should You Float or Freeze After CSAB Round 1?
Float if:
You received a seat but have realistic better options in your CSAB choice list — ones where your rank is close to the closing rank and there is a genuine chance of upgrade in Round 2.
Freeze if:
You received a seat you are happy with, or your higher choices are far beyond your rank (making upgrade unlikely). Since CSAB has very limited rounds, taking a guaranteed good seat is often wiser than gambling on an unlikely upgrade.
