What is JEE Main Response Sheet?

JEE Main response sheet is a document showing your attempted answers for every question in the exam. Released after the exam alongside the provisional answer key. Compare both to calculate your expected raw marks before the official NTA result is declared.

Using the Response Sheet to Estimate Your Score

After downloading both the response sheet and provisional answer key, go through each question systematically. For MCQ questions: +4 if your answer matches the key, -1 if it does not, 0 if unattempted. For numerical questions: +4 if your value matches exactly, 0 if it does not match or unattempted.

Tally up your expected raw score (out of 300). This gives you an estimate before NTA declares the official result. Note that if any answer keys are revised (due to accepted challenges), your final score may differ. Many education portals also provide automated score calculators using your response sheet ID.

How to Challenge a JEE Main Answer

If you believe an official answer is wrong, submit a challenge through the NTA portal within the specified 2–3 day window. Provide a detailed justification and reference to standard textbooks or sources. NTA reviews challenges and if accepted, marks are revised for all candidates with that question. The Rs. 200 fee is refunded for accepted challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

More questions about JEE Main response sheet and answer key

1
How do I download the JEE Main response sheet?
Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and look for 'Response Sheet' or 'Candidate's Response Sheet' link. Log in with your Application Number and Date of Birth. The response sheet is a PDF showing each question ID, the option you selected, and the correct option (after answer key release). Download and save it.
2
When is the JEE Main response sheet released?
NTA releases the response sheet along with or shortly before the provisional answer key, typically 7–14 days after the last exam date of a session. The response sheet and provisional answer key are released simultaneously so candidates can calculate their expected raw score and raise objections if needed.
3
Can I challenge an answer based on the response sheet?
Yes. After comparing your response sheet with the provisional answer key, if you believe a question has an incorrect answer (or multiple correct answers), you can challenge it. NTA charges Rs. 200 per challenge (refunded if accepted). Challenges must be submitted online within the specified window — usually 2–3 days.
4
What information is shown in the JEE Main response sheet?
The JEE Main response sheet typically shows: candidate name and application number, exam date and shift, question paper ID, each question listed by ID (not the question text), your selected answer (option A/B/C/D or numerical value), status (attempted/unattempted). After answer key release, it also shows the correct answer.
5
Is the response sheet useful for calculating my JEE Main score?
Yes, it is very useful. Compare your response sheet against the provisional answer key to calculate your expected raw score: +4 for each correct MCQ, -1 for wrong MCQ, +4 for correct numerical, 0 for wrong numerical. This gives you a close estimate of your score before the official result. Note that the final result may differ slightly if answer key is revised after objections.
