JEE Main 2027 Final Answer Key Process Explained
How the provisional-to-final answer key cycle is expected to work, based on NTA's established process.
Important: JEE Main 2027 has not been conducted, so no answer key — provisional or final — exists for it. This page explains the standard process based on recent years, not a confirmed 2027 timeline.
The Provisional Key Stage
After each JEE Main session is conducted, NTA has consistently released a provisional answer key along with the candidates' recorded responses, allowing each candidate to see exactly what they selected for every question alongside NTA's proposed correct answer. This transparency step is expected to continue for JEE Main 2027.
The provisional key and response sheet are typically hosted on the official JEE Main website (jeemain.nta.nic.in) and candidates must log in with their application number and date-of-birth/password to view their personalized response sheet alongside the question-paper-wise key (released separately for each shift/set code, since JEE Main is conducted across multiple shifts over several days).
The Challenge Window
- Candidates can typically raise objections against specific questions or proposed answers during a short window after the provisional key is published.
- A nominal, non-refundable fee per challenged question has been the norm in recent years.
- Challenges are reviewed by a panel of subject experts before the final key is prepared.
- Candidates must upload supporting documentary evidence (such as NCERT textbook references) to back their challenge — unsupported objections are typically rejected outright.
- The objection window has generally stayed open for about 2-3 days in recent cycles, though exact dates and times are notified only with the provisional key.
Typical Timeline: Provisional Key to Result (Recent-Years Pattern)
Illustrative stage-by-stage timeline based on how NTA has run this process in recent JEE Main sessions. Exact 2027 dates will only be confirmed in the official notice.
| Stage | Typical Timing (Relative) | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| Exam conducted | Day 0 | JEE Main session held across multiple shifts/days |
| Response sheet released | Within ~1 week of last shift | Candidates view their recorded responses online |
| Provisional answer key released | Along with or shortly after response sheet | Set/code-wise proposed correct answers published |
| Objection window opens | Same day as provisional key | Candidates submit challenges with a per-question fee |
| Objection window closes | ~2-3 days later | No further challenges accepted after deadline |
| Expert panel review | Few days after window closes | Subject experts assess each challenge's validity |
| Final answer key released | Shortly before result | Incorporates accepted corrections/dropped questions |
| Result/NTA score declared | Typically within days of final key | Scores computed strictly against the final key |
The Final Key and Result Calculation
Once the expert review of all challenges is complete, NTA releases the final answer key, incorporating any accepted corrections (dropped questions, revised correct options, etc.). Final scores and percentiles are computed strictly against this final key, and results are declared soon after. Once your 2027 result is out, use the College Predictor to check your options.
If a question is dropped entirely because of a valid, well-evidenced objection, NTA's established practice has been to award full marks for that question to every candidate who attempted the exam in that shift — not just those who challenged it — ensuring parity across the +4/-1 marking scheme used for JEE Main's MCQs. Dropped-question credit for numerical-value questions (which carry no negative marking) is similarly applied uniformly where relevant.
