CSAB NEUT College Predictor 2026

Special round for North East state and Union Territory candidates — more seats, lower cutoffs, bigger opportunities

What Is the CSAB NEUT Round?

The CSAB NEUT (North East + Union Territories) round is a special counselling round conducted as part of CSAB 2026. It is designed to increase engineering enrollment from candidates in North East India and Union Territories — regions historically underrepresented in premier engineering institutes.

In the NEUT round, approximately 25% of total CSAB seats at participating institutes are reserved exclusively for NEUT-eligible candidates. These are additional seats — they do not reduce the general seat pool. This makes the NEUT round a significant advantage for eligible candidates.

Cutoffs in the NEUT round are much more lenient than general or home-state cutoffs for the same institute-branch combination. Candidates from NE states with JEE Main rank up to 1,00,000–2,00,000 often find excellent NIT options through the NEUT round that they would not qualify for otherwise.

NEUT Round Strategy for CSAB 2026

  • CSAB 2026 registration has closed (SR1 result declared August 6, SR2 result declared August 12) — both special rounds are complete. The NEUT round followed the same cycle; eligible candidates needed to declare NEUT eligibility as soon as that window opened.
  • Keep your domicile/residence certificate from your state or UT government ready for the NEUT round.
  • Fill choices for both regular CSAB seats AND NEUT reserved seats — you can be considered for both simultaneously.
  • Use the CSAB predictor with your state selected to see both home-state NIT options and NEUT-specific options.
  • For NE state candidates, NITs in NE states (NIT Silchar, NIT Agartala, NIT Manipur, NIT Nagaland, NIT Mizoram, NIT Sikkim, NIT Arunachal Pradesh) also offer home state quota — stack both advantages.
  • NEUT round seats are often available even after regular CSAB rounds fill up — always try the NEUT round if you are eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions – CSAB NEUT Round 2026

Common questions about the CSAB NEUT special round for North East and UT candidates

1
What is the CSAB NEUT round?
NEUT stands for North East states and Union Territories. The CSAB NEUT round is a special counselling round conducted after CSAB's regular special rounds, specifically to fill seats reserved for candidates from North East states (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) and Union Territories (J&K, Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra & NH, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep, Puducherry). Typically, 25% of CSAB seats at many institutes are reserved for NEUT candidates.
2
Who qualifies for the CSAB NEUT round?
Candidates who are domicile/permanent residents of the 8 North East states (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) or any of the Union Territories of India qualify for NEUT round participation. You must provide state domicile/residence certificate from the appropriate authority. Having a valid JEE Main 2026 rank is still required.
3
Are NEUT seats different from home state seats at NITs?
Yes, these are separate seat pools. Home state NIT seats (50% of NIT intake) go to candidates from the same state as the NIT — for example, NIT Silchar home state seats go to Assam candidates. NEUT seats are additional seats reserved within CSAB's special rounds specifically for NE state and UT candidates — they can apply to any NIT/IIIT/GFTI, not just those in their home state.
4
What is the CSAB NEUT cutoff rank range?
NEUT cutoffs are generally much more lenient (higher rank numbers) than general or even home-state cutoffs. In CSAB 2025, NEUT candidates with JEE Main rank up to 3,00,000–5,00,000 were allotted seats at some institutes in non-core branches. For CSE at NITs in NE states, NEUT candidates with rank up to 80,000–1,50,000 had options. Exact cutoffs vary by institute and branch.
5
Can I participate in both regular CSAB and NEUT rounds?
Yes. NEUT-eligible candidates can participate in all regular CSAB special rounds AND the NEUT round. This gives NE state and UT candidates more opportunities than other candidates. You must register for CSAB and indicate your NEUT eligibility. Choice lists for regular and NEUT rounds are submitted together.
