CSAB 2027 Round 2 (SR2) – What to Expect

CSAB 2027 SR2 has not happened. Based on the 2026 pattern, here is what the final round typically involves.

Disclaimer: No CSAB 2027 SR2 dates or results exist yet. This page describes the expected process based on how SR2 has worked in 2026 and earlier years — always confirm with the official 2027 notification on csab.nic.in.

Why SR2 Is Expected to Be CSAB 2027's Last Round

Based on the structure CSAB has used for years, including 2026, the centralized counselling process runs exactly two Special Rounds — SR1 and SR2 — with no SR3 on the official portal. After SR2 reporting closes, any remaining vacancies typically shift to independent institute-level spot admissions, which are not part of CSAB's coordinated process and are not guaranteed every year or at every institute.

This two-round design is a structural feature of CSAB rather than a one-off decision for a particular year, so it is reasonable to expect the same pattern in 2027 — but it will only be officially confirmed once CSAB publishes its 2027 schedule.

Expected SR2 Seat Pool Dynamics

Going into SR2, the seat pool is expected to be reshaped in two opposing directions, as it has been every year: shrunk by SR1 candidates who Froze and reported, and partially replenished by SR1 allottees who did not pay the fee or report within the window. Older, high-demand NITs tend to be close to fully subscribed by the end of SR1, while GFTIs and newer IIITs typically show the largest SR1-to-SR2 movement — a pattern consistent across past cycles and expected to repeat in 2027.

CSAB 2027 Round 2 – FAQs

Common questions about the expected CSAB 2027 SR2 process

1
Has CSAB 2027 Round 2 (SR2) happened?
No. The entire 2027 JEE and counselling cycle has not started as of October 2026, so there is no CSAB 2027 SR2 result. This page explains the mechanism SR2 has consistently followed, including in 2026, so you can plan ahead for when the 2027 cycle reaches this stage.
2
Is CSAB SR2 expected to be the final round in 2027?
Based on the pattern followed for years, SR2 has been the last centralized CSAB round on csab.nic.in, with any further seat filling shifting to independent institute-level spot rounds. The same structure is expected for 2027, though this is not an officially confirmed fact until CSAB publishes its 2027 schedule.
3
Does the seat pool change between SR1 and SR2?
Historically, yes — the pool shrinks from candidates who Freeze and report in SR1, and can partially replenish from SR1 allottees who don't pay the fee or report in time. This dual effect has been consistent for years and is expected to apply similarly in CSAB 2027, though the exact numbers will depend on that cycle's actual demand.
4
Who is expected to be eligible for CSAB 2027 SR2?
Based on the stable rule, candidates who Floated after SR1 or remained unallotted carry forward automatically into SR2; those who Froze in SR1 are excluded. No separate SR2-only registration has been required in past years, and the same is expected for 2027.
5
Will the choice list change between SR1 and SR2 in 2027?
Based on the pattern used every year, the choice list is locked once before SR1 and reused unchanged for SR2 — there is no re-filling window between rounds. This is expected to remain the same for 2027, since it reflects CSAB's core single-choice-list design rather than a feature likely to change year to year.
