CSAB 2027 – What to Expect
CSAB 2027 has not begun. Here is how the CSAB process reliably works year after year, so you understand the mechanism well before any official 2027 dates are released.
CSAB 2027 dates are not yet announced
As of October 2026, CSAB has not released any official brochure, schedule, or seat matrix for the 2027 admission cycle. Nothing below is a confirmed 2027 fact — it describes the stable process CSAB has followed historically. We will update this page the moment CSAB publishes its 2027 information bulletin.
What CSAB Actually Is
CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) is the counselling body that fills seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs that remain vacant after JoSAA's main rounds conclude for a given admission year. It does not run alongside JoSAA — it begins only after JoSAA finishes, using whatever seats are still open at that point. This sequencing (JoSAA first, then CSAB) has been consistent for years and is expected to continue in 2027, even though the exact 2027 calendar dates don't exist yet.
CSAB typically conducts two Special Rounds — commonly referred to as SR1 and SR2 — plus a separate NEUT round reserved for candidates from North-Eastern states and Union Territories. Each special round has its own choice-filling/locking window, allotment result, and reporting/seat-acceptance deadline, following broadly the same mechanics as JoSAA's rounds but compressed into a shorter overall timeline.
The Stable CSAB Process (Expected to Repeat in 2027)
| Stage | What Happens (Mechanism, Not Dated) |
|---|---|
| JoSAA concludes | JoSAA's final round finishes; remaining vacant NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats are identified |
| CSAB registration | Eligible candidates register on csab.nic.in using their JEE Main rank for that year |
| Choice filling & locking | Candidates fill and then explicitly lock a preference list of institute-branch combinations |
| SR1 allotment & reporting | First special round allotment is released; allotted candidates report/accept within a window |
| SR2 allotment & reporting | Seats still vacant after SR1 are offered in a second special round |
| NEUT round | A separate round for NE-state/UT candidates runs using seats set aside for this category |
This sequence reflects the pattern CSAB has followed historically (including 2026). The exact 2027 round count, dates, and seat numbers will be confirmed only in the official CSAB 2027 brochure.
What Stays the Same Every Year vs What Changes
It helps to separate CSAB's process (which is structurally stable) from its numbers (which vary every year). The two-step choice filling/locking mechanism, the existence of SR1 and SR2, the NEUT round, the general document and category-certificate rules, and the eligibility logic tied to JoSAA participation — all of these have remained consistent for several cycles and are reasonable to expect again in 2027.
What changes every year — and therefore cannot be stated in advance for 2027 — includes exact calendar dates, the number of vacant seats at each institute, opening/closing ranks, registration and seat-acceptance fee amounts, and any policy tweaks CSAB may introduce. Be wary of any source quoting specific 2027 numbers before CSAB's official brochure is released; they are almost certainly guesses or outdated figures repurposed from an earlier year.
