CSAB 2026 Document Checklist
Every document you need — for online upload and for physical reporting at the allotted institute.
Why CSAB Documentation Deserves Extra Care
Because CSAB runs on a compressed timeline compared to JoSAA — fitting a full registration, choice-filling, allotment, and reporting cycle into a much shorter window since it happens after JoSAA's five rounds have already concluded — candidates often have far less buffer time to gather or correct documents than they did during JoSAA. This makes advance preparation especially important: if you're planning to participate in CSAB (whether because you didn't get your desired outcome in JoSAA, or you withdrew and are trying again), start assembling your document set well before CSAB registration opens rather than waiting until an allotment is confirmed.
A particularly important detail specific to CSAB is that certain category certificates — notably OBC-NCL and EWS — generally need to be current for the relevant financial year, not simply any valid certificate you may have used earlier in your JEE Main application or during JoSAA. Submitting an outdated certificate is one of the most common and entirely avoidable reasons candidates run into trouble during CSAB document verification, so double-check certificate issue dates carefully against the specific financial year requirement stated in that year's CSAB information bulletin.

Documents Carried Over From JoSAA
Since CSAB counselling runs after JoSAA's rounds conclude, several documents you would have already prepared for JoSAA — Class 10 and 12 certificates, JEE Main scorecard and rank card, and your JoSAA allotment (or non-allotment) letter — carry directly over and are needed again for CSAB. Keep your JoSAA-stage document folder intact and organized rather than assuming you'll need to gather everything fresh, since much of the core documentation is identical across both processes; only category certificates and a few CSAB-specific items typically need fresh attention.
If you withdrew from JoSAA or did not receive an allotment there, your non-allotment or withdrawal confirmation may itself be a required document for CSAB registration, so retain any confirmation or status page generated by the JoSAA portal even if it shows a negative outcome — CSAB's system may specifically ask for this as part of establishing your eligibility to participate in its own counselling rounds.
Online Upload Requirements
Photo format
JPG, white background, passport size
10–50 KB
Signature format
JPG, white background, plain
4–30 KB
Certificates
PDF or JPG, clear scan
Max 2 MB each
Scan quality
300 DPI minimum, no blurring
Full document visible
Beyond meeting the technical file-format requirements, take the time to review each scanned document for legibility before uploading — a rejected or flagged document due to poor scan quality can cost you valuable time during CSAB's compressed counselling window, when there's often little room to fix and resubmit before a round's deadline. Use a proper scanning app rather than a casual phone photo, ensure adequate lighting with no glare or shadows, and confirm the entire document (including edges and any stamps or seals) is clearly visible before you upload.
Preparing for Physical Reporting
Once your CSAB seat is finalized, physical reporting at the allotted institute is where your uploaded documents get verified against their originals in person. Carry every original document alongside multiple sets of self-attested photocopies — colleges typically retain some copies for their records while returning your originals after verification, and having extra sets on hand avoids delays if the institute requests more copies than you anticipated.
It's also worth applying for time-sensitive documents like a migration certificate well before your expected reporting date, since these can take a few weeks to process through your board's regional office and are easy to overlook amid the excitement of a confirmed seat allotment. Planning this timeline in advance, rather than scrambling after your CSAB result, meaningfully reduces the risk of a last-minute complication jeopardizing your admission.
