CSAB Process

CSAB 2026 Seat Acceptance Process – Step by Step After Allotment

Everything you must do after your CSAB Round 1 allotment — from fee payment to document upload to physical reporting.

Overview: What Happens After CSAB Allotment

Once CSAB Round 1 allotment results are published on csab.nic.in, you enter a short but critical action window — typically just 2–3 days. During this window you must pay the seat acceptance fee online, upload documents, and indicate whether you want to Freeze your current seat or participate in Round 2 for a potential upgrade.

Missing this window means your allotment is automatically cancelled and the seat goes back to the pool for Round 2. There are no extensions. Given how tight CSAB timelines are, check the allotment result immediately when it is announced and complete all steps the same day if possible.

After Round 2 (your final allotment), you must physically report to the allotted institute within the reporting deadline, which is usually 5–7 days after Round 2 results. Physical reporting involves document verification and fee payment at the institute.

Step-by-Step Seat Acceptance Process

1

Log in at csab.nic.in after Round 1 result

Use your JEE Main Application Number and password. Check the allotment letter which shows your allotted institute, branch, category seat type, and allotment status. Download and save this letter.

2

Pay the seat acceptance fee online

Pay Rs. 30,000 (General/OBC/EWS) or Rs. 15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) through the payment gateway on csab.nic.in. Accepted modes: net banking, credit/debit card, UPI. Save the payment receipt. This must be done within the specified window — typically 24–48 hours after the allotment.

3

Upload required documents

Upload scanned copies of Class 10 certificate, Class 12 marksheet, JEE Main scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), and passport photo. Ensure scans are clear, legible, and within the specified file size. Incomplete or blurry uploads can cause issues at physical reporting.

4

Choose: Freeze your seat or participate in Round 2

After fee payment, indicate your response: Freeze (accept current seat, skip Round 2 upgrade) or Participate in Round 2 (keep seat but try for upgrade). If you are happy with your allotment and it is in your top choices, Freeze. If you have high-priority choices above your current allotment that might have vacancies in Round 2, participate in Round 2.

5

Wait for Round 2 result (if not frozen)

Round 2 allotment is announced approximately 5–7 days after the Round 1 reporting deadline. If you got an upgrade, a new allotment letter is issued for the better seat. If no upgrade, your Round 1 seat is confirmed. Either way, the fee you paid carries forward.

6

Physically report to the allotted institute

Travel to your allotted institute and present all original documents for verification. Pay the remaining institute fees (tuition, hostel, etc.). Complete the enrollment process. Missing the physical reporting deadline results in seat cancellation with no refund of the seat acceptance fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about CSAB 2026 seat acceptance and reporting

1
What is the CSAB seat acceptance fee for 2026?
The seat acceptance fee for CSAB 2026 is Rs. 30,000 for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS category candidates, and Rs. 15,000 for SC, ST, and PwD category candidates. This fee is paid online through csab.nic.in after your Round 1 allotment is announced. The fee is adjustable against institute fees upon physical reporting and is partially or fully refundable if you withdraw before physical reporting.
2
What is the difference between Freeze and participating in Round 2 in CSAB?
After CSAB Round 1 allotment, you have two main choices: (1) Freeze — accept your current allotted seat, withdraw from Round 2 upgrade process, and proceed directly to physical reporting. Your seat is confirmed. (2) Participate in Round 2 — keep your Round 1 seat as a safety net, but allow the CSAB algorithm to try and upgrade you to a higher-priority choice in your list if a vacancy opens in Round 2. If no better seat is available, you retain your Round 1 seat.
3
What documents are required for CSAB seat acceptance?
Documents typically required for CSAB online acceptance: (1) Class 10 mark sheet/certificate for date of birth, (2) Class 12 mark sheet and passing certificate, (3) JEE Main 2026 admit card and scorecard, (4) Category certificate (OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS) — must be recent and from competent authority, (5) PwD certificate if applicable, (6) Passport-size photographs, (7) Photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, etc.). Original documents are required for physical reporting at the institute.
4
What happens if I miss the CSAB seat acceptance deadline?
If you miss the fee payment or document upload deadline after Round 1 allotment, your CSAB allotment is automatically cancelled. The seat is freed and may be re-allocated in Round 2 to another candidate. You cannot reclaim the cancelled seat. This is an extremely strict deadline — set multiple reminders and pay the fee as soon as the result is declared, do not wait until the last day.
5
Can I upgrade my CSAB seat in Round 2 even after paying the seat acceptance fee?
Yes. Paying the seat acceptance fee and choosing to participate in Round 2 does not forfeit your Round 1 seat. The fee simply confirms your participation in CSAB. If Round 2 gives you a better allotment (higher in your choice list), the fee carries forward and your Round 1 seat is released. If Round 2 gives you no upgrade (no vacancies in higher choices), you retain your Round 1 seat and the fee stands.
