Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed answers on CSAB 2026 refund dates and processes

1
When will CSAB 2026 refund money for candidates not allotted any seat?
CSAB refunds for candidates who were not allotted any seat in Special Round 1 and Round 2 are processed in batches between mid-September and late October 2026. CSAB must first complete institutional admission reconciliation with all 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 33 GFTIs before funds are released via PFMS/NEFT.
2
Why do CSAB refunds take 4 to 6 weeks after counselling ends?
Unlike instant retail refunds, CSAB operates across over 90 central institutions. Each participating institute must physically report which candidates actually joined classes, which candidates withdrew, and which seats remained unconfirmed. Once institutes finalize their non-reporting lists, the CSAB Central Accounts Committee approves the consolidated refund list for thousands of students simultaneously.
3
How much money is refunded if I did not get any seat in CSAB?
Eligible candidates receive their Special Round Participation Fee back minus the non-refundable processing fee of ₹5,000. General/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS candidates receive ₹40,000 back, while SC/ST/PwD candidates receive ₹20,000 back directly into their registered bank account.
4
Do I need to submit an application or form for the refund?
No. If you did not receive an allotment, or if you formally selected 'Surrender & Withdraw' within the official Round 1 window on csab.nic.in, the refund is automated. You do not need to submit any separate application or visit any center.
5
What is the difference between Batch 1 and Batch 2 of CSAB refunds?
Batch 1 (disbursed in mid-to-late September 2026) covers all candidates with completely verified, error-free bank account details. Batch 2 (disbursed throughout October 2026) covers cases where initial NEFT/PFMS payments bounced due to invalid IFSC codes, inactive accounts, or candidates who corrected their details via the CSAB Grievance Portal.
