VITEEE 2026 – VIT Admissions Guide

VIT Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, AP · Exam Pattern, Rank vs Score, Cutoffs & Placements

Exam Snapshot

Exam dates April 28 - May 3, 2026 · Eligibility: 10+2 with PCM, 60% aggregate · No negative marking. See our VITEEE Rank Predictor to estimate your rank from your expected score.

VITEEE (VIT Engineering Entrance Examination) is conducted directly by VIT University for admission to B.Tech programmes across its four campuses — Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Andhra Pradesh (Amaravati). VIT is a private deemed university, and VITEEE is its own entrance exam, separate from JEE Main.

The exam has 125 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes: 40 Physics, 40 Chemistry, 40 Mathematics (or Biology for B.Tech Bio-related programmes), and 5 English questions, each worth 1 mark. Crucially, VITEEE has no negative marking — unlike JEE Main and BITSAT — so attempting every question is always the correct strategy, and speed matters less than in negative-marking exams.

Attracting over 2.5 lakh candidates annually for roughly 35,000 seats across all campuses, VITEEE is one of India's largest private engineering entrance exams. VIT Vellore is the flagship campus with the highest cutoffs and longest-standing recruiter reputation, while Chennai, Bhopal, and AP campuses offer more accessible cutoffs for the same branches, including CSE.

Frequently Asked Questions – VITEEE 2026

Common questions about VITEEE exam, cutoffs, and VIT admission

1
What is the exam pattern for VITEEE 2026?
VITEEE has 125 questions across Physics (40), Chemistry (40), Mathematics or Biology (40), and English (5), to be completed in 2 hours 30 minutes. Each correct answer earns 1 mark and there is no negative marking, so attempting all questions is the optimal strategy.
2
What is the eligibility for VITEEE 2026?
Candidates must have passed (or be appearing in) 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (or Biology), with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates must be born on or after July 1, 2004. NIOS and international candidates are also eligible.
3
Does VITEEE have negative marking?
No, VITEEE does not have negative marking. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, so unlike JEE Main or BITSAT, there is no penalty for wrong answers — you should attempt every question to maximise your score.
4
What VITEEE rank is needed for CSE at VIT Vellore?
VIT Vellore's CSE programme is the most competitive across all VIT campuses. Based on recent trends, a rank under 1,000-5,000 gives a strong chance at VIT Vellore CSE, requiring an estimated score of 100+ out of 125. VIT Chennai, Bhopal, and AP campuses have comparatively more relaxed cutoffs for the same branch.
5
Can I get admission to VIT without appearing in VITEEE?
Direct admission (without VITEEE) is available in limited cases — for VITEEE rank holders above 1 lakh in some programmes, and for board toppers with a minimum 95% aggregate in PCM under VIT's direct admission scheme. Most students, however, need to appear for and qualify VITEEE.
6
How does VITEEE compare to JEE Main for rank estimation?
VITEEE and JEE Main are different exams with different candidate pools, so ranks don't translate directly. As a rough approximation, a VITEEE rank around 5,000 corresponds loosely to a JEE Main rank in the 40,000-60,000 range, but this varies by year and should only be used as a rough planning reference, not a precise conversion.
