JoSAA 2027 Expected Rounds

This is not yet known. JoSAA's round count has varied by year — 2025 had 6 rounds, 2026 had 5 rounds. JoSAA decides the number of rounds each year based on factors like seat vacancy levels and how quickly the merit list clears, and this decision is only finalized and published once that year's counselling schedule is released. There is no reliable way to predict the exact 2027 round count this far in advance.

The round count depends on how many seats remain vacant after each round and how JoSAA's authorities decide to balance thoroughness (giving more candidates a chance to move up) against speed (finishing counselling in time for the academic session to start). A year with more vacant seats or more candidate churn between rounds may need an extra round compared to a smoother year.

Regardless of how many total rounds a given year has, each round follows the same mechanism: candidates are allotted seats based on rank and choices, they must respond (freeze, float, or slide), pay the required fee, and complete document verification before the next round's results are processed. This structure has remained consistent across every year regardless of round count.

Generally, yes — more rounds mean more opportunities for seats to open up as higher-rank candidates who got better offers withdraw or float, which can benefit candidates further down the merit list. But this isn't guaranteed; a 5-round year isn't necessarily worse for lower ranks than a 6-round year, since vacancy patterns matter more than the round count itself.

The round schedule, including the exact number of rounds, is published in the JoSAA information brochure released around the time of JEE Advanced results. For 2027, this means the schedule will only be available after JEE Advanced 2027 is conducted and its results are declared — not before.
