HP CET 2026 Counselling Process

HP CET (HPCET) counselling is run by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (now HIMTU), Hamirpur, for B.Tech and B.Pharmacy seats in its affiliated institutes. About half of the seats are reported to go by JEE Main scores and the rest by HPCET rank. The figures here come from secondary reports, so confirm them on himtu.ac.in.

Is HP CET counselling relevant if I have a JEE Main rank?
Yes. Reports on the 2026 counselling say about 50% of the seats in HIMTU institutes are filled on JEE Main scores, with a counselling fee reported as Rs 1,600 (Open) and Rs 800 (SC, ST, BPL). So a JEE Main score helps even if you skip the HPCET, but confirm the seat split and fees in the HIMTU notice.

In 2026 HIMTU counselling registration was reported to open around 18-19 June, with rounds running through the summer and a spot round reported on 12 August. Dates differ between secondary sources, so follow the notices on himtu.ac.in.

Are there government engineering colleges in Himachal Pradesh?
Himachal Pradesh does not have a large number of standalone state government engineering colleges compared to other states; instead, most engineering education is offered through university departments and private institutions, with NIT Hamirpur being the premier engineering institute in the state (admission via JoSAA, not HP CET).
