DASA Admission through CSAB 2026

DASA (Direct Admission for Students Abroad) is a scheme by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to admit NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals of Indian origin to engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. DASA seats are supernumerary — they are over and above regular intake and do not reduce seats available to regular Indian candidates.

CSAB administers the DASA round as part of its overall counselling process. After JoSAA completes its regular rounds, remaining DASA seats at participating institutes are offered through CSAB DASA counselling, which runs alongside the CSAB special rounds in August 2026.

JEE Main is NOT required for DASA seats. Eligibility is based on SAT scores and Class 12 performance. This makes DASA the primary route for NRI/OCI students who have studied abroad and have not appeared in JEE Main.

Frequently Asked Questions – CSAB NRI/DASA Predictor

Common questions about NRI and DASA admissions through CSAB 2026

1
Who is eligible for DASA/NRI seats in CSAB 2026?
DASA (Direct Admission for Students Abroad) seats are for: (1) Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) holding Indian passports, (2) Foreign nationals of Indian origin (PIOs/OCIs), and (3) Persons of Indian Origin with foreign passports. Indian nationals who have studied abroad for 2+ years and cleared the required SAT examination are also eligible. JEE Main qualification is NOT required for DASA seats.
2
What exam is required for DASA/NRI seats instead of JEE?
DASA 2026 uses SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores — specifically the SAT Subject Tests or the SAT with relevant subject scores. Candidates must have scored at least 1440/2400 on the SAT (or equivalent). Additionally, Class 12 with PCM is required with at least 60% marks. JEE Main score is not used for DASA seats; SAT is the primary criterion.
3
How many NRI/DASA seats are available in CSAB 2026?
DASA seats are supernumerary — added on top of the regular seat matrix, typically 15% of sanctioned intake at participating NITs and IIITs. In CSAB 2026, DASA seats that went unfilled during JOSAA-DASA rounds are offered. The total DASA seat count across 30+ institutes is typically 3,000–4,000. CSAB provides an additional opportunity to fill remaining DASA seats.
4
Can an NRI candidate use JEE Main rank for regular seats in CSAB?
If an NRI candidate has a valid JEE Main 2026 rank (having appeared in India), they can participate in CSAB regular rounds just like any other Indian national. They can also simultaneously apply for DASA seats using SAT scores. Most NRI families where the student has studied in India choose the JEE Main route for regular seats rather than the SAT/DASA route.
5
What is the fee for NRI/DASA seats at NITs?
DASA/NRI seats have significantly higher fees than regular seats. Annual tuition for DASA students at NITs is typically USD 3,000–5,000 (approximately ₹2.5–4 lakh) for NRIs/PIOs. For foreign nationals without Indian origin (CIWG scheme), fees may be higher still. Hostel and mess charges are the same as regular students.
