Local vs Non-Local Status – Why It Matters
Telangana's local-area reservation policy (following the state's bifurcation from Andhra Pradesh) reserves a share of convener quota seats for candidates who studied within Telangana for a specified number of years. Study certificates from Class 6 through Class 12 (or equivalent) are used to determine this status. Candidates who studied outside Telangana, including in Andhra Pradesh, are generally classified as non-local for Telangana counselling and compete for the open/unreserved seat pool, unless covered by mutual reservation provisions between the two states.
Tips to Avoid Verification Delays
- Prepare 3-4 sets of self-attested photocopies of every document in advance.
- Keep documents organized in the same order as the official checklist, if provided.
- Double check names, dates of birth, and category details are consistent across all certificates.
