DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) is a separate admission scheme run by the Ministry of Education for NRIs, PIO/OCI cardholders, and children of Indian workers in Gulf countries (the CIWG category). It runs parallel to JoSAA — DASA candidates do not compete with domestic JEE Main/Advanced candidates for regular JoSAA seats, but instead compete against each other within a small, dedicated DASA quota.

DASA counselling covers 24 NITs, several IIITs, and around 15 GFTIs. Since 2021, a valid JEE Main score (not SAT, as was required earlier) is mandatory for DASA eligibility — candidates who completed Class 12 with PCM abroad must still register for and appear in JEE Main. Your JEE Main percentile score determines your standing in the DASA merit list, which is separate from the India-based All India Rank list.

Because DASA seat counts per branch are very small (often 2-5 seats), the applicant pool is also smaller — but this doesn't necessarily make it "easier." Cutoff scores can fluctuate more year-to-year than domestic JoSAA cutoffs simply because a handful of strong or weak applicants can shift the closing score noticeably in either direction.

Frequently Asked Questions – DASA College Predictor 2026

Common questions about DASA admission for NRI and foreign national candidates

1
Where is the actual DASA college predictor tool?
This page is a guide explaining how DASA counselling and eligibility work. For an interactive, score-based prediction across DASA-participating NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, use our DASA JEE Main College Predictor tool, which is built on historical JoSAA DASA cutoff data.
2
What is DASA counselling?
DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) is a scheme administered by the Ministry of Education that lets NRIs, PIO/OCI cardholders, and children of Indian workers in Gulf Cooperation Council countries (the CIWG category) seek admission to NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) without going through the regular JoSAA process used by domestic students.
3
What score is used for DASA admission — is it JEE Main rank?
From 2021 onwards, a valid JEE Main score (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) is mandatory for DASA admission, replacing the earlier SAT Subject Test requirement. Students who completed Class 12 with PCM from a foreign curriculum must still appear for and score in JEE Main to be DASA-eligible. Your JEE Main percentile/score — not your India rank list position — is what DASA counselling uses for merit ranking among applicants.
4
What is the difference between DASA and DASA-CIWG?
DASA (Non-CIWG) covers general NRI, PIO, and OCI candidates. DASA-CIWG is a specific sub-category for children of Indian workers employed in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries — UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain. CIWG candidates get a separate, often less competitive, quota within DASA.
5
Which colleges and how many seats are available through DASA?
DASA counselling covers 24 NITs, several IIITs, and around 15 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Seat counts per programme are small — typically only 2 to 5 DASA seats per branch per institute — so competition per seat can still be meaningful despite the smaller applicant pool compared to domestic JoSAA.
6
How accurate is DASA cutoff prediction for 2026?
Because DASA seat counts are so small, cutoffs can swing more year-to-year than JoSAA's domestic cutoffs, which are based on much larger applicant pools. Treat DASA closing-score data as a planning benchmark rather than a guarantee, and apply to a spread of institutes and branches rather than relying on a single top choice.
