CSAB 2027 GFTI List Explained

The official CSAB 2027 GFTI list doesn't exist yet. Here's what GFTIs are, how the list is compiled, and what to expect once it's published.

Important Disclaimer

CSAB has not published a 2027 GFTI list as of October 2026. This page explains what GFTIs are and the stable process by which the list is compiled each cycle — it is not a confirmed 2027 institute list. Verify the final list on csab.nic.in once CSAB 2027 registration opens.

What Are GFTIs?

GFTIs, or Government Funded Technical Institutes, are engineering colleges that receive central or state government funding and participate in CSAB (and JoSAA) counselling alongside NITs and IIITs. Unlike NITs, which follow a fairly standardized national structure, GFTIs form a diverse group — ranging from long-established state engineering colleges to newer technical institutes, each with its own history, funding arrangement, and branch offerings. This institutional category and its role in the counselling system are stable, year-independent facts about how Indian engineering admissions are structured.

How the GFTI List Is Compiled Each Cycle

Each year, CSAB (coordinating with JoSAA) finalizes the list of GFTIs participating in that cycle's counselling, based on institutional agreements, government funding status, and AICTE approval. This process happens close to the counselling cycle itself — not months in advance — which is why no definitive 2027 GFTI list exists as of October 2026. Institutes occasionally join or exit the centralized system, so the list is not guaranteed to be identical to the previous year's.

What is stable, however, is the process: once CSAB registration opens for a cycle, the full GFTI list — alongside NITs and IIITs — is published as part of the official seat matrix, broken down by institute, branch, and category-wise seat counts.

CSAB 2027 GFTI List – FAQs

Common questions about the CSAB 2027 GFTI list and process

1
Is there an official CSAB 2027 GFTI list available yet?
No. CSAB has not published its 2027 participating institute list, including GFTIs, as of October 2026. The GFTI list is finalized and published only when CSAB releases its seat matrix for that admission cycle. Treat any 2027 GFTI list seen elsewhere as speculative, likely copied from a previous year, until confirmed on csab.nic.in.
2
What exactly is a GFTI, and will this definition change in 2027?
GFTI stands for Government Funded Technical Institute — a category of engineering colleges that receive central or state government funding and participate in CSAB (and JoSAA) counselling alongside NITs and IIITs. This definition is structural and institutional, not tied to any specific admission year, so it applies the same way to CSAB 2027.
3
Does the GFTI list change from year to year?
Yes, the specific list of participating GFTIs can change — institutes are occasionally added or, less commonly, removed from the centralized counselling system based on government decisions and institutional agreements. This is why the exact 2027 GFTI list cannot be assumed from the 2026 list, even though the broad category and its role in CSAB remain stable.
4
How is a GFTI different from an NIT or IIIT?
NITs are centrally administered institutes of national importance with a fairly standardized structure. IIITs are either fully national (centrally funded) or PPP-model (jointly funded by the Centre, state, and an industry partner). GFTIs are a more heterogeneous category — ranging from established state engineering colleges to specialized technical institutes — each with its own funding and governance structure. This institutional taxonomy is stable and is expected to still apply in 2027.
5
Where will the confirmed CSAB 2027 GFTI list be published?
The authoritative source is the official CSAB seat matrix published on csab.nic.in during registration and choice-filling for each cycle. This document will list every participating GFTI along with branch-wise seat counts once CSAB 2027 registration opens — which has not happened yet.
